Agreed, a bargain, I would love to take a punt on those but collection only from Redruth... and I already have far too many unused speakers... Must. Resist.

Looks like an interesting project for someone. Drivers alone worth more than the asking. Too far for me to drive.

Worth it just for the drive units alone.

I have a bit of an issue with people breaking classic vintage speakers for the value of the drive units, been asked to do this a few times and always refused.

Last time was with some KEF Calindas, drivers probably worth over £200, had a number of offers in that region for the drivers alone. Ended up selling the complete speakers to a pal for fifty quid, now used every day for TV and music in his large living room where they sound superb.

Breaking should be a criminal offence IMV

Well at least you see fewer empty Tannoy cabinets for sale these days. It was at an epidemic rate a few years ago.

I wasn't suggesting they be broken up, nor would I agree that they are "classic vintage speakers" (I have never heard of Transmission Electronics), just that the value of the drive units are worth at least the asking price.

It does not follow a priori that a large cabinet stuffed with well respected drive units will sound good; by all means listen to them, but if found wanting there is no ethical reason not to cannibalise them for the drive units.

I was just commenting on the practice of breaking, not specifically replying to you directly.

I think if Transmission Electronics were the predecessor of IMF then these can be classed as classic or at least of historical worth. So would seem a shame to break them just to make a few quid profit.

I don't know that ethics comes into it, it's just a loudspeaker, not a moral conundrum. I just personally don't like to see old speakers like this demolished, same as I don't like to see old buildings demolished. Obviously the legal owner is absolutely free to do as he pleases with them - and to tell me to piss off
