Seeing your Nakamichi BX-1 reminded me of the BX-2 and BX 125 (both of which I still have somewhere), used to record cassettes for use in the car. I no longer use cassette as a prime source medium, though I must have recorded some 200 90minute tapes over the years. Still, seeing your BX-1 brought back happy memories of the time when I discovered that high quality cassette recorders (ones that followed precisely Philips's specification) could make as good a recording as open spool reel-to reel recorders at 7.5ips, but with much greater convenience.

Or buy some cassettes! Back in the day, I was always vinyl. Used my Aiwa (something or other) to record compilation tapes for the car but that was it. I had maybe two or three pre-recorded cassettes, one was OMD, can't recall the others. Could be fun to revisit the format?

Well, I’m using DAC and HiRes files mostly but I like vintage analogue as well. Recording and listening tapes brings me positive emotions. Right now:

Spinning this again as it is just so good on vinyl compared to the CD IMO.

Well there has been quite a bit of controversy on the net about the recent re-mastered Pink Floyd albums that have been released over the last 3 years. I did some investigation and discovered what I think is correct and some interesting facts. "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" was originally recorded on a mix of analogue and digital by the band and then transferred to full digital for final mastering before being committed to CD or Vinyl. A similar process occurred with "The Division Bell". It appears that not much care at the time was taken with producing the vinyl versions of either albums, remember it was the age of the CD back then. From what I can find out subsequently nearly all Pink Floyds albums have been re-mastered at The Mastering Lab, chosen to get the best from the original masters with a view to getting a better vinyl result. Some cynics would say it's all a marketing ploy, well maybe but however the proof is in the pudding.

So I took the plunge and purchased both the above and I found both to be very good IMO. They certainly have all the dynamics and vibrancy you would expect, and they are very enjoyable. As I picked them up online at 50% discount I think they are a bargain buy,
