Just received the cnc'd aluminum plates to replace the original ones at the back of the JBL enclusures, and the post office has the new stuffing waiting for the pick up. Now just waiting for the WBT parts to arrive and to finalize the whole thing.. :)
Mika, as always, love your photos of your room and system. I was just going back through these, it has been awhile, and I just loved the picture of your daughter, post 128, enough to melt anyone's heart. Beautiful kids you have, the most important thing for sure!

I actually spent the day putting JBLs back together for good as yesterday received the long awaited WTB binding posts and few minor parts that have been missing. So now I'm enjoying the system first time in its full glory almost in two months and oh boy :D Perhaps some pics tomorrow if can get my DSLR working again..
Took few days but here are some pics of the current system and few details of the current condition of the JBLs - the nice cherry veneer, cnc'd aluminum panels with WBT terminals and new Kenrick Sound 2308/L91 horn lenses. Still missing the aluminum JBL model plates around the potentimeters, the places you can see at the pics. Also still have the red curtains on the windows I'm not so fond of, but hey! That's up to Mrs when get the other ones back I like more :)

Thanks Barry! And yes I am proud especially as it's our familys living room and not any dedicated cave where I need to escape when feel like listening some music. And of course the kids and Mrs use it also, so.. :)
Absolutely wonderful, Mika! As ever (and even more so now, with the speaker refurbishment) your room epitomises the perfect stylish, cosy and inviting space, which just *makes* you want to settle down for a long and extended music listening session….
Actually, I rather like the red curtains, as they act as an effective contrast against the otherwise fairly neutral colour palette, serving to create a focal counterpoint, and adding warmth. It’s a classic interior design concept/trick - something I know a little about, working with interior designers, as an art dealer.
Plus, folk these days seem to be afraid of COLOUR. Personally, I’d ban the sale of Magnolia paint from all shops [generally used by bland people with no personality], and force folk to think outside of the box a bit, when it comes to decor, and stop playing it boring and safe!!

I'm a fan of mid 20th century furniture and design. Have a reproduction eames chair myself. For me it is timeless rather than retro and this room has many elements I love. It's a smart looking space full of interest and a fantastic system to boot.
If I ever get round to creating another room in the loft of our house which means I can have our old bedroom as my listening space, I'll be taking a few design cues from here.
Thanks! In a way the best part is that our decor is not planned or "designed" as all the furniture etc have just somehow drifted to our home or previous places where we have lived and the end results just is what it is. I guess the most thought part is actually the hifi system I'm having..

Ha! I knew the dust will push some members off the cliff :D Unfortunately it's my fault as I'm the one doing most of the dusting here, especially when it comes to my system. I'll try to improve before the next pics..
The Micro Seiki is sounding rather nice! Of course it's pretty difficult to know what comes from where as there are new components to me but still..
Zu DL-103 is sounding surprisingly competent paired with the FR tonearm, much better than it did with the SME V so there definitely is strong synergy there. Especially the midrange is sweet having the dynamics and finesse haven't heard before. Perhaps the bottom end is bit round and lean compared to my other system driven by Garrad 401 but considering the price range for this cart :mental: Overall the sound from Micro Seiki is big and relaxed but still very well defined. Definitely high quality combo in many ways. Also surprisingly silent with the backround noise when combined to the A23 SUT and McIntosh MM phono input.
I agree on the TV thing, it is the one thing that I wish I could banish from my living room-and maybe altogether. But then I suppose I have to give a little too on my part, at least for the audio end's sake!Quote:

Indeed. However, what I’d always try and do, if there were enough rooms available, is dedicate one of them to being either a TV room/lounge, and another, a music room, so that if she wants, the good lady of the house/kids can have their space, watching TV, etc, and keep that ugly goggle-box in there, thereby leaving the music room free of such paraphernalia, and of course vice versa, with all the ‘hi-fi shit’, kept out of the TV room/lounge.Quote:

That's it.. refuse to put the stereo in the same room as the TV. I have my own back room nicely decorated out all cosy loike, it's small but it my music room i can dissapear to.
Nice one, dude - and quite right! I think that sort of arrangement can be accommodated in most homes, if the will is there from those living in them, especially where no kids are involved.
In terms of the latter, I can see no logical reason why, say, in a 3-bedrooom house, for two adults, where only one room is actively used as a bedroom, that the other two rooms can’t be used as a separate TV and music room - I’m talking about here in houses where a hi-fi/music lover is one of the two adults concerned, and where any spare rooms don’t already have a clearly defined purpose.
You often get the impression in a lot of houses that ‘she who must be obeyed’ gets the house to herself, to do with what she likes, whilst ‘he' does as he’s told - and that’s just not right! :nono:

We just don't have a TV at all. We have a large pull down projection screen in the ceiling which is out if the way for most of the day, and it just drops down when we switch on the projector. The blu ray player, and computer are connected into the DAC, and we get great sound through the system when we need it, and nothing taking up space when we don't.
Have been thinking that option also but with the kids it is still easier that the TV is somewhere else :rolleyes:
Jesus just imagine in our house where the wife is glued to the TV..I abhor the TV. We be be fighting like cat & dog 24/7. Just imagine wanting the tunes on but have to book it in with the missus! :eek: Just imagine wanting a certain Hi-Fi but have to ask the wife if it's her's friendly :eek::eek:

Sonos Connect has been added to the system for the Tidal streaming handling also the Spotify and NAS usage. The Ensemble phonostage has now the manufacturers more or less serious Megaflux FSF powercord, that replaced the older DIY alternative with Furutech sockets. Now during the summer most of the listening has been very cozy backround listening and only few times have done some serious listening..

have not yet tried my Dynavector cartridge with FR64FX tonearm. I will most likely ship the Zu DL-103 to upgrade during the autumn and then it will be the time. Unfortunately my SUT is designed for DL-103 based cartridges but of course I can always use the Ensemble phonostage, which is usually connected to the Garrard/SME/T'fig combo..
Have you tried DL 103 LCII? I have been through many DL103, the sound from LCII version with modified wooden case bring me most (in my opinion and some of my friends). I currently use Altec 4722 as the main step up for the system, I tried also with some other cartridges including Dynavector 17D3 on FR64FX, Dynavector DV505, it worked very well. One secret I would like to share, DL103 (almost all kind) work perfectly with SAEC 308SX with it original ceramic head shell if you have chance, try it out :). I've been home alone for few days and have to say that the evenings have been flying while having the lights off and listening some good music :)
Last weekend removed Transfiguration Phoenix cartridge from Garrard/SME combo for well earned retirement and replaced it with much cheaper Dynavector DV-20X2L. Have been playing it now for more than 10 LPs and it's starting to open up bit by bit. Interesting to make new fine adjustments after sometime and play little with the SME extra weights and also the silicone demp. I'm guessing that no extra weight is needed and pretty tiny amount of demp, if any..
Despite no complaints spinning some nice jazz after put kids to sleep and waiting Mrs to return from the night shift :)

Yesterday started to tear my system down and move to safer ground from its current location as today received a pile of second hand Lundia shelves that I'm planning to use to build new LP storage system to my room as the previous one is getting way too small. The plan is to have the other end of the room (the one behind the system) to be filled with shelves and then also perform some minor adjustments to the acoustic treatment having at the room. Interesting to see how this will turn out as my room is not that big after all..
Despite of this hideous and cunning plan have also recently bought other set of speakers that have lusted for some time now and have wanted to try at my own room after some really nice demos. Have actually owned their ancestors years back, so interesting to hear how their upgraded fundamental idea of positioning will work here :eyebrows:
