They are kinder to vinyl, though both have issues. A good one goes for quite a bit more though.

I've just won an eBay auction for a Marantz PM7200.
I've noticed that some auctions have "Warranties available" and some have "Returns accepted".
Has anyone round here ever tried (1) the warranties - do they work, and (2) re returns, does that give much protection?
I'll be picking up the kit, so can I refuse it if it's not in good condition?
I've bought quite a lot over the years, but not so much relatively expensive stuff, and I've only bought in person on a couple of occasions.
Also, I don't normally pay until I've had some sort of contact with the seller. Is that reasonable?
I'm not too worried as most eBay experiences I've had have been OK, but I wonder whether others have had experiences which would be worth sharing.
If the item is not as described then you are entitled to walk away from the deal. The warantee is offered by eBay not the seller and is pretty much worthless IMO.

The warranties as Martin says are probably worthless.. cant imagine their scope being very wide at all and especially not on old vintage gear. Basically eBay - as stated by their CEOs etc for legal reasons - is nothing more than a price negotiation. No sale is agreed to necessarily by using the site - that is a personal thing between the buyer and seller to arrange themselves.
If eBay sales were real sale contracts then eBay themselves would be open to being sued for anything going wrong with the sales or would leave them open to being sued for involvement in selling fake or stolen goods etc. Therefore, eBay is nothing more than a site that facilitates price negotiation with the sales, in their legal minds, taking place in private off the site.
Their T&Cs kind of imply that there is some kind of legal authority to their sales in order to force people into making things run smoother for them by voluntarily giving up their legal rights to comply with the T&Cs but in other situations they are obliged to stress that this isnt the case (in AGMs, court cases etc). Kind of applies with use of PayPal too - sales law in the UK says that it is illegal for a third party to interfere in a sales contract between two parties, including how payment is made. eBay T&Cs forces the seller to agree to sale terms if the buyer wants to use PayPal but I don't see the OFT doing much about this multi billion dollar multi-national...
So if you don't like the price achieved for something you sell, you are perfectly legally entitled to walk away from the price negotiation. eBay might not want you to continue to participate in their site for much longer but thats up to them..
Same applies as a buyer..
Other than that, it's down to social niceties... people have certain expectations of eBay and how it works and if those expectations arent met (as with any expectations, false or correct) people get angry. So in the end it's up to you to either appease these expectations for smoother and less stressful future use of the site or not.

Its getting more and more expensive to sell on ebay unless you're a business seller - their aim (as had been announce many times at various AGMs I've seen quotes from over the years) is to turn it into a massive online mall with only businesses on there. Can see that the seller normally sells M&S knickers etc and the description has no description, wanting to take the sale outside of eBay, plus the email address in the description is typical of that of a Nigerian Scammer - two male names followed by a date on a common free webmail account.
I suspect the eBay account has been hijacked by getting log in details via a phishing email - shame as it probably was a good business acount by the look of things.. not good to loose in these times!
