Worth a go then? what output would they be...15 watt? I quite fancy them and have been letting the price drop a bit.. would the wad drive them ok

I'd imagine the rating at the time they were made could well have been 8 to 10 watts, bearing in mind the normally modest outputs of the valve amps of the time. This means little in every day use terms though, as the sensitivity is likely to be in the mid nineties (decibels) or even higher bearing in mind the 3ohm impedance, so you'll never get them loud enough to hurt them. The WAD will work with them. Possibly best on a 4ohm tap if you've got one, but it certainly won't hurt the amp.
If you fancy them, why not contact the seller and ask if they'd consider an offer? You might get them for less.
Shock, Horror Probe..... you'll have to sell a pair then, :eyebrows: which ones though???
If you just fancy try some high sensitivity full range sixties drive units, I might have something interesting and decent going for a song.
Geoff did you get your 'mystery' speakers? If so what are they ??
Not too far away from me.

Hi Rob, thanks for that. I've managed to buy this after agreeing with the seller that I'd arrange my own courier for that. He seems that he changed his mind and wants it collected in some shop over there (I wonder why?) :)

Not sure about the deadline but I think there's some margin to it.
Sorry Jamie - that was me! I'm an admirer of early ADC cartridges and had been watching the item for a few days.
no worries mate,£50 was my max. enjoy :)
yes you did,to be honest it would have been a luxury and my logic was that perhaps i might turn my cash towards a new turntable re the cable dressing thread as that play is only going to get worse. :(
Audiolab 8000A "the best amp ever made" apparently.

Strange, 'dull and mediocre' would have been my description.
wow, wonder if I can 400 quid for my one owner.
(must remeber to speel check my ad tho)
I've had a few dealings with Jordan Watts drivers. Including brand new ones from the factory in Hayes, just up the road from me. They were a flawed design. The front foam/vinyl cone suspension was prone to coming loose. The rear beryllium copper tri-spring suspension went out of alignment easily and is a bugger to get straight again and the box shaped enclosing alloy basket caused nasty refiective colourations. They still seem to fetch silly prices though.
Its the name I think that sells them. I have bid on the ones we discussed yesterday. the guy is German I think. Look like I may get em. he thinks they would be fine as the impedence will change in the box etc and likely go up towards 5/6 ohms... their nominal 8 wattt
Have you considered using a 'bid sniper'? I use Goofbid: http://www.goofbid.com/
It's free, easy to use and stops you getting carried away and placing silly bids :). I normally decide my bid amount and select a five second lead in. Some think it's unfair, but I don't see it that way. After all, you can still be outbid. It also has the advantage of not showing your hand and encouraging others to try and outbid you. I've won a few goodies with it.
Here's a rare but rather good CD player. The NAD 524. It was well reviewed when released. I bought one. It makes a decent transport too. At £49 'Buy it Now' this is worth having.

I used to use one Geoff. forgot which now and yes Its not really unfair although annoying if your on the receiving end. but if you really want then you have to bid higher. No one has touched them since they've been on and thats a while now. he said himself that the drivers are pretty much unknown over here but are rated highly in Germany. Might have cut my throat by publishing it here but its only fair I suppose.
These look cute...

someone was looking for one of these...its probably a tad overpriced
Its worth what someone pays I guess.... they are hard to get amps. I'd pay half that tops but , hey?
