America are a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by US artists Dewey Bunnell (was born in England), Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The trio met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live. Achieving significant popularity in the 1970s, the trio was famous for its close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. The band released a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/soft rock stations.
This album, however, is from 1994 and their 13th studio album and features just Dewey and Gerry, Dan Peek having left in 1977.

Now I don’t profess to be a fan of this extraordinary singer, songwriter and actor from Harrow in Middlesex. However, this album should be in everyone’s collection, it epitomises all that was great about this artist and the punk new wave era of the late 70’s.

Well unusually I am listening early again this morning and starting with this the second of five soundtrack albums over a ten year period for the TV series Ally McBeal.
With nine studio albums, five soundtrack albums and three live albums she has sold over 12 million albums and won two Golden Globes, two Emmys, and two Screen Actors Guild awards. She is best known for her work as the music producer on the television series Ally McBeal; she produced more than 500 songs for the show and its guest artists, which included Sting, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Bon Jovi, Al Green, and many more. Shepard also holds the Billboard award for the most television soundtracks sold, and she has played keyboards and sung with Rickie Lee Jones, Al Jarreau, and Jackson Browne.

So my third early morning listening session of the week which is somewhat of a rarity. I was drawn to this album the moment I slid the doors back on the storage unit which hides everything on the printed page, vinyl, cd and dvd !
This is the 7th studio album it was released in 1980 the recording process and subsequent mixing was fraught with issues for all involved. Mark Knopfler who played guitar on the track “Time out of Mind” described the session as long and gruelling ! During recording Becker was hit by a car when walking back from a bar to his apartment in the Upper West Side Side which put him in hospital and a six month recovery due to secondary infections. Once it was completed, there was a three-way legal battle between MCA, Warner Bros., and Steely Dan over the rights to release it. After the album was released, jazz pianist Keith Jarrett sued Walter Becker and Donald Fagen for copyright infringement, claiming the title track plagiarized "'Long As You Know You're Living Yours" from his 1974 album Belonging, and he was given a co-writing credit. Steely Dan did not release another studio album until Two Against Nature, nearly 20 years later !

This is her 7th studio album, of only nine albums spanning six decades. She has two Grammys both for duets, with Joe Cocker on “Up Where We Belong” and Bill Medley on “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life”.
