In 1990, Eric Clapton performed 18 nights at one of his favorite venues - the famous Royal Albert Hall in London. During the 18 run of shows Clapton performed with three different line-ups: a rock band, a blues band, and an orchestra. Eric returned to the same venue in 1991 with the same three line -ups and played a further 24 shows. The huge undertaking of rehearsing for performances of three distinctly different genres was made even more challenging by the line-up for the rock shows varying from 4, 9 or 13 band members.

This the 3 lp rock show, Barry, on Rhino issued in 2023, only listened to the first 2 sides so far.

So, Tuesday arrives and the first early morning session of the week is about to start. This is an artist who, regrettably, I have far too little of; namely two compilation albums and one studio album from a total of 20 studio albums, 4 live albums and 13 compilation albums.

This is the second of my two compilations, which was released in 2000 and features remastered versions of some of her most iconic songs.

Next up, a band that despite as the names suggests are not all Americans !

America are a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by US artists Dewey Bunnell (was born in England), Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The trio met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live. Achieving significant popularity in the 1970s, the trio was famous for its close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. The band released a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/soft rock stations.

This album, however, is from 1994 and their 13th studio album and features just Dewey and Gerry, Dan Peek having left in 1977.

Now I don’t profess to be a fan of this extraordinary singer, songwriter and actor from Harrow in Middlesex. However, this album should be in everyone’s collection, it epitomises all that was great about this artist and the punk new wave era of the late 70’s.

One of my friends from school, nickname Slim, got put forward for the Blockhead competition at the time, I think run by the NME, it involved sending in a suitable photo. Clive(Slim) meet the band and saw them onstage, and as he was a very good keyboard player he was invited to play on a couple of numbers, and actually ended up doing some professional work with them when he went up to London.

My copy is an early vinyl release and does not include Sex & Drugs & Rock 'n' roll. According to Wikipedia, some early reissues included it but it wasn't credited on the label or sleeve There is a recent-ish reissue (as a double album) knocking about that includes it in a Live in Paris 2nd disc.

So much for the vinyl.

Early CDs don't include it either, though some later issues do. I think I will seek one out, as my vinyl album is rather tired these days, and as you say, that track really is essential.
