So my third early morning listening session of the week which is somewhat of a rarity. I was drawn to this album the moment I slid the doors back on the storage unit which hides everything on the printed page, vinyl, cd and dvd !

This is the 7th studio album it was released in 1980 the recording process and subsequent mixing was fraught with issues for all involved. Mark Knopfler who played guitar on the track “Time out of Mind” described the session as long and gruelling ! During recording Becker was hit by a car when walking back from a bar to his apartment in the Upper West Side Side which put him in hospital and a six month recovery due to secondary infections. Once it was completed, there was a three-way legal battle between MCA, Warner Bros., and Steely Dan over the rights to release it. After the album was released, jazz pianist Keith Jarrett sued Walter Becker and Donald Fagen for copyright infringement, claiming the title track plagiarized "'Long As You Know You're Living Yours" from his 1974 album Belonging, and he was given a co-writing credit. Steely Dan did not release another studio album until Two Against Nature, nearly 20 years later !

So next up we have what should be one of the top 10 female solo albums of the 90’s and one of the all time great Country Rock albums !

This is her 7th studio album, of only nine albums spanning six decades. She has two Grammys both for duets, with Joe Cocker on “Up Where We Belong” and Bill Medley on “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life”.
