Conker season will be upon us next month. I read that the long hot dry summer will bring them on sooner than normal, even more so than last year. Which means smaller conkers.
So Barry's record (33.7g iirc) looks like it'll stand for yet another year. Bettering my best last year (28g) will be an easier target for me, as long as I'm not plagued with "doubles" again, which are no use to anyone.

Proper wet rain now, bouncing off the drive. This kind of thing is not good after a long dry spell, it's how you get flash floods. Fortunately the ground up here has been primed by a couple of slightly rainy nights.

We had biblical thunder storms last evening, but dry at the moment. Trying (probably in vain) to get a load of washing dry before the next predicted storms arrive. Also waiting for the washing machine repair person (musn't assume it's a man) - typical after a week away it has decided to only spin intermittently - takes about four goes for it to do it. What's a new washer these days, £250? What's the plan cost over ten years? Take it to the tip and buy a new one.
The only washers that are really bomb proof are Miele Professional (not their domestic models which are the same as all the other brands just with a higher price).
My old Hotpoint still going after 20 years and it was second hand so who know how old it really is. But only used once every two weeks.

We started out with a Hoover Keymatic (remember them?) They were close to bomb proof. Had a selection of plastic "cards" to insert depending on what programme you wanted.
Had some proper rain here overnight and this morning. Stopped now, but it should be back again later.
Back in Stoke now and it's raining here too.
We got 10 mins of rain, then the sun came out:doh:

I get it, it’s a fiver or so a month, so I’m paying for a new one every 5 years(ish), but I would estimate we have at least 2 call-outs a year, and it just is so much easier to log a call and get the bloke (it was a bloke) to fix it, or like they did with the fridge freezer last year when it was too bad, write it off and give me a new one. Anyway, it was the brushes, but he also said it could be the motor reaching end of life so he replaced the entire unit. It’s working fine now, and is about half the noise it was making before so that’s a win too.Quote:
