Now that I like and could use. Monoblock amplifiers with balanced line input, a preamplifier with a balanced-line input and balanced outputs. Excellent!
Ideally there would be another balanced-line input, but you can't have everything.

In this ever-changing world it's nice to know that whatever the decade or whatever the fashion Denon products will always be gorgeously brutalist and chunky.
Not ebay but always fancied some of these - a lot of speaker for £1500
https://www.emporiumhifi.com/loudspe...-loudspeakers/
Looks like good value for an aluminium cabinet speaker with AMT drivers. Not new by any means but I bet they sound pretty good based on what the Piega 611 does at around £15K.
They would cost around £9.5K now inflation adjusted.

I picked up one of these a few years ago as back-up when my Avondale Monos needed time off for servicing. The XXVIII is part of the range after John Farlowe left Exposure so it doesn't have the same fan club. From what I've found it's a refined version of the Super XVIII. I'm not sure where else you'd find quality dual mono amplification with such dynamics and warmth for £400-odd.

This won't be around for long. Original US Robert Ludwig Led Zep II supposedly in 'VG+' playing condition.
EMT 938 looks in good condition

Yes, that is a good price for an EMT 938. Unlike someone in the UK who has a Linn LP12 for sale on eBay for £50,0000!
When I started this thread over twenty years ago, perhaps I should have finished the title with "(?)".
Collection only from Glasgow, and I am biased as I have a pair, but Spendor SP1s for £260 anyone? Stone cold bargain!

Yes it's an obsolete, lo-fi format, but who doesn't want one of these?

It would have been better if the function controls had been on a tray that could slide away underneath the unit when not in use.
Very tidy Aiwa 'Mini Compo' system:

Tasty B&O 6500 system looks in great condition although not cheap:

Today on 'Help! I've ruined my turntable!'

Wants 600 notes for it 'untested' too. Good luck!
Puts me in mind of that popular Neil Diamond song: "Sondek blue, no bugger wants one" :)
TT2 with Mission 774 and (broken) Dynavector 10x. The arm alone is worth the asking price. Turntable plinth is slightly scruffy but would take much to make it lovely. Weird mat probably needs replacing!

My guess is that it was in shit-state previously - like you say, stored for a long time in a shed or garage - and he had half a tin of blue paint lying around.
Seller probably isn't the original owner, he's picked it up in a clearance or something, probably already painted like that when he got it.
When you say 'Good looking turntables' no-one thinks 'Thorens TD160' - but wait!

Pioneer R200 receiver - you don't see these every day (Jap voltage and it's in America though)

If I was looking to buy a vintage clock radio that was going for silly money I might consider this:

I used to love my old clock radio, what better way to be woken up?
Well, maybe with one of these:

No radio though, which is a shame.
At a car boot I bought one of those old clock radios where the time display is on flip down cards rather than being digital. The mech that changed the cards was knackered, so I intended to fix it but never got round to it and in the end I chucked it out. Probably shouldn't have done as there's one for sale on eBay at £156

The one I had was way more upmarket than that too.
This is the one that Marty McFly has by his bed in 'Back To The Future' (Panasonic RC-6015)

You know how many cards there are in those things? That was the main reason I gave up on fixing it. But I wanted one because of 'Back To The Future.'

When I was at school I had a digital one, Akai, with the faux-wooden case. Gave it away when I left University as I was on the dole and didn't need it. Looked for another one since, no chance.
Can't get started without a brew.
Brew, ciggy, first breakfast, brew, ciggy, second breakfast, brew, ciggy. Then I'm ready to take stock of the day.
"criterion" if singular (i.e. cheap price, or available on eBay), "criteria" if plural (i.e. cheap price and available on eBay).
Picked one of these up out of curiosity. A fairly scarce AMC 3000 integrated amp in nice condition.
It's really surprised me. As a development of the NAD 3020 I'd expected it to sound decent, but to my ears it's noticeably better and very pleasant to listen to.

More akin to the Denon PMA250 at least in the look of it?
Sort of vaguely recall AMC from early 90s. HFW might have reviewed one.
What speakers and source are you using nowadays, Geoff?
S.
Hi Shane, hope you're doing well mate.
Currently, the source is just my old Pioneer PD-S505 Precision CD player. I shall swap over to my Trichord Digital Turntable and Monarchy Audio DAC at some point;
The speakers are home built and rather unusual. They are omnidirectional, using full range 5.5 inch high sensitivity upward firing drivers with reflector/diffusers, in floorstanding 1/8 wavelength transmission line cabinets. They're sounding rather good.
I'll be posting pics on my Deaf Row blog at some time.
Are you using anything interesting?
I have vague memories of your Pioneer PD-S505 but none of the Trichord. I don't recall seeing it when you lived in Southall. Lets face it, we haven't met since 2014!
No HiFi for me at the moment.
Daily drivers are dirt cheapo superlux headphones plugged straight into PC. No dac/amps involved, just don't need them.
Do you also stream, Geoff?
Looking forward to the pics!
S.
Fella that bought my vintage Sony amp sent me pics of some of his kit, which included a tidy-looking pair of Nightingale NM1 speakers. And some Beovox S45-2s that also looked nice, which he got off Ebay for £1.75. Now that must be a proper bargain :) I've tried to persuade him to post more on here, it all looks like interesting stuff, especially those Nightingales.
