3.85 miles.
In miles we not only can easily visualise how far it is but also easily estimate how long it will take to cover the distance. Metres or kilometres and it's time to do some maths first.

Despite the speedometer in most cars having dual scales: miles/hour and km/hour (the latter being a bit of a 'bastard' unit), all odometers display the total mileage done by the car in miles. Perhaps it is different in the EU and elsewhere, except for the US.
I heard that when the US were considering going metric they looked to see how easy it would be to convert. There were two reasons why it didn't happen: the general public didn't like the idea, but more importantly it would have cost too much for the US manufacturing .industry to convert.
The UK should have converted after the war: there were so many changes going on at the time, one more wouldn't have made much difference. We didn't metrify(?) our currency until the '70s, and that was achieved with little fuss. However to alter all the signage on roads and motorways would cost a fortune, so that is not going to happen anytime soon.
I'm 1.7m in height; it says so in my old-style black British passport. :)
One of the best AoS thread drifts in a very long time!
I’m off to listen to The Proclaimers new remake, 804.672 Kilometres.
lol.
Ok, to get back on track, this converts miles to kilometres, it's on Ebay, and a bit of a bargain :)

I was doing my apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery when we finally 'went metric' in UK - so I can work and think in either Imperial or metric, or, as I often do, a mix of both together depending on what fits best
Made in West Germany! You don't see that any more, or 'Made in Yugoslavia' either.
My first iron was made in East Germany, think I still have it somewhere. Everything now is made in China.
Not like any Spendor speaker I've ever seen - and surely with just a Supertweeter and 2 bass units they're not going to sound very good???

Indiana Line 'Utah 8' speakers

Never had a go on these but they have intrigued me for some years. First time I see any for sale in UK.
Minty 1979 Akai stacker system with the speakers and record deck plus all the original shipping crates. Tasty.
I think he's asking a bit much £2K would be more like it but if you want one try finding another in that condition.

Technics SB-E200 - yes the ones that look like they have a Cylon Base Star on top - in Lincoln
Always wanted a go with these never heard any of that range

Classic 'mug's eyeful' Amstrad Tower System.

Price is optimistic even for a mint, working example; needless to say, it's neither
I suppose some mug will buy it, but some things really aren’t worth saving!
If he offered me forty quid to take it away I still wouldn't be interested.
This is much better, from the same era.

Asking price is ludicrous but those tall cabinets are fetching good money on their own and are pretty rare. Wouldn't mind one myself.
Some of my posh friends dad’s had decent stack systems, only one I can remember in any detail was a full Marantz system, would love to be able to go back in time and listen to them again now!
There is definitely something exceedingly cool about (decent) 70’s silver hifi in a tall cabinet, but not at that price!
The reason I look through those listings is I've been looking for a particular mid '80s Akai system the neighbour had but never seen one in all these years. Very few from any of the big Japanese brands ever come up from that period, it's mostly 1990 onwards (if you exclude the cheapo ones). Not sure why that is.
KEF 105, very tidy and with original packaging. Auction, lots of bids so far but still worth a look. In Ipswich, Alex, where are you?

Yeah, I saw them too. Look pretty tidy. Are they the same as what JacHawk had at NEBO? They took a bit of driving.
Ruark Templar II - good speakers, infinite baffle, good choice for a very small room. Up in Geordie-land:

He's also got a pair of those strange Canon speakers that fire down onto a cone to disperse the sound - always wondered if they sound any good.

An S50 which is similar got tested on ASR

Bit of a disaster but I got the impression he quite liked it.
I used a pair for years for rear surround effect in my Dolby surround system.

The KEF 105s went for £621. Not sure if that’s good or not, but seems a lot of speaker for the money.
Proper Rotel Michi power amp from the 1990s
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/198404833...AAAX2BMjfV27sg
And the matching passive pre-amp from a different seller

Wanted these back when they first came out.
I always lusted over the Michi back in the day, too. Be surprised if you could better those 2 with new equipment at £1700…
There is a certain charm and style to the Michi preamp, but I'm not sure it would fit in with the domestic decor of some.
How about this vintage Accuphase power amp then? (in London for once, not bleeding Tokyo) - price is within the acceptable range
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/287382060790?
If I was still working I'd snap that up.
That's nice but it's a pity about the damage to the knobs. Never seen one with front outputs, can't remember if I've seen an Accuphase with front inputs either. Also rare to see a rumble filter in the power amp.
Now that I like, but I would need two of them so I could switch them to monoblock amplifiers. I also like the option to use balanced line inputting. Not keen on the awful US style mains sockets, but they wouldn't be used.
Shame about the damage to the knobs: it looks like the paint finish has worn away. No doubt they could be resprayed, but any equipment of the perceived high quality of Accuphase should use solid metal knobs, not painted plastic ones. :(
Never seen them before. I like them. That power amp is a proper beast. Damping factor 500? Old Japanese amps usually only about 50 or so. I don't know if it matters, or if it is just marketing guff (yes Hegel I'm looking at you :))
The damping factor of 500 is largely theoretical, suggesting the amplifier output impedance is 0.016 Ohm. However that ignores the loop impedance of the cable connecting the amplifier to the speaker. Thus the true damping factor will be somewhat less than the quoted value.
But all of this is academic: a damping factor of 50 is more than sufficient.
Very tasty vintage Pioneer. Wants top dollar though, and it's in Spain:
