Friday mornings are for food shopping and queuing for fuel, no queues in Scotland , yeah right.
WAtched most of the rangers game, second was a bit better when Hagi came on, we are a long off where we should be , but it was a win. I Katic played his first game in Croatia, with a bit of luck he will be recalled in January as he the best defender by a mile. The longer Celtic take to sort themselves out with injuries etc the better for us. We need to win the League Cup, that’s for sure.
first well done to Newports' 'Conquered All The Chippys' team who won the uk's Man v Fat title.:D

Both Rangers, who are away to Sparta, and Celtic who are at home to Leverkusen need all the help they can get.lol
gers with a makshift cb partnership a big goldson couldnt travel. not sure why yet but it might have been as he isnt double jabbed?? or maybe a niggle. so we are going with lb bassey in middle... i would rather a lad from the b team played..
celtic will at least have a home crown cheering them on. the germans are usually a good side tho.
anyhoo, good luck to both

Not great, not much more to say
So what did we make of that shite last night, guys? Although you lost against Sparta, you did a damn sight better than when we played them there last year! However, I would've expected you to have done better and got at least a point. Last year, you'd likely have won that game.
Us? Well what can I say... Before the game, I knew we had less than hee-haw chance of getting anything from it, as Leverkusen are to all intents and purposes a Champions League team, and right now are at a totally different level from us, in a transitional stage, building a new team under a new manager, and with so many injuries and players coming back from such who weren't fully fit (i.e. Kyogo and McGregor).
Even if that weren't the case, it would've been a hard task. I reckon that the Celtic team Brendan Rodgers had, Dembele and all, would've struggled to beat Leverkusen last night, who've got to be one of the favourites to win the competition. When the groups were drawn for the Europa League, and I looked at the teams we were up against, I knew that realistically we didn't have a hope in hell of progressing, and that was before injuries to key players.
Given where Celtic are at just now, success was GETTING INTO the Europa League group stages. Progressing from them into the knockout stages, is for next year, if we get there, once the manager has signed more players, which are badly needed (especially in defence and midfield), and the ones he's already signed have settled in.
This also applies to our league form, and why we're losing to Livingston and drawing with Dundee Utd at home. Even at that level, you can't hope to win most games unless the team is at (or near) to full strength, there's a settled defence and a strong enough bench for the manager to use to make substitutions that can affect the outcome of games, possibly turning a loss or a draw into a win - none of which at the moment applies to Celtic.
However.... Much as I admire what Ange is doing and trying to build, he NEEDS to have a 'Plan B' and be willing and flexible enough to set-up the team sometimes to 'win ugly', as in unglamorously and without playing 'swashbuckling' football for 90 mins, plus also for them to play long balls sometimes when that's the only way to penetrate and break some teams down.
Playing pretty passing patterns around the penalty box is causing problems against teams who aren't afraid to press you high up the park, and it's leading to defensive mistakes and lost goals, when sometimes simply punting the ball unceremoniously out of the danger area is what's needed!
Above all, if he hasn't learned this lesson already, ultimately the MOST important thing for Celtic [and Rangers] fans isn't always their team playing attractive football; it's WINNING games, by *whatever means* possible, and if he doesn't get that message soon, he may not be given the time he needs to complete the project he started.
Rangers? Unless the players buck up their ideas soon and stop believing they're better than they actually are, and thinking that stopping 10-in-a-row was 'job done', and so they could 'relax' this season [which is the impression some are giving], then they could end up winning nothing. The league this year, so far, is wide open, and that makes the cup competitions, starting with beating Hibs at Hampden in the semis, all-important!
Thoughts?:)
Marco.
Ive not seen either game but its a shame 10k kids were allowed in to a supposedly closed stadia only to boo every black player and pressurise ref into sending one off for very little. such is uefa nowt will of course happen.
Anyway, much said about gerard's imagination as he thought rangers played well. my info is they didnt and tbh havent really played well all season, bar the odd 30 min spells. Well beaten even if it was only one goal.
As to Celtic, i believe at least they tried and had a few decent chances but were up against a decent side who dont miss opportunities. Ange has said he will not change his ways one little bit, so get used to this and other matches this season. If teams know how to play against you you need to change at times, and if he wont then I alas feel he wont last very long. Folk are already getting restless. (this is an attitude i will also lay firmly at SG's door too. He has no plan B)

I watched most of the Rangers game , once my grandson had finished watching Minions, Too many players not playing well, i think Gerrard has hit the nail on the head, we need to spend some serious money to go further in Europe, although we should have beaten that lot last night. 10,000 kids booing a black player- what’s that all about.
Watched the highlights of the Celtic game last night, well as you say too many defensive errors.
We must win on Sunday that’s for sure.

My thoughts exactly, and have already said so. As I also said, when you're manager of either Celtic or Rangers, you're expected to WIN nearly every game, by whatever method necessary. THAT is the most important thing. Not always playing pretty football.
I'm certainly willing to give Ange this season to experiment and get things right and get all the players in he needs, as I think if given time, he'll go on to be a great success. However, he needs to learn to be more flexible in his approach to how the team plays. This isn't Japan or Australia - it's GLASGOW, and the demands from fans are completely different!
I also agree with what you've said about Rangers. I'd also add that, IMO, too many players are still 'dining out' on having stopped 10-in a row and won their first league title in years. That's gone now, and resigned to history. What they need now is to show that they can move onto the next level, defend their title, and win another one, which is often harder, plus also some cups.
As much as Ange is under pressure to succeed, and if he fails will be out, so will Gerrard this season if Rangers end up with nothing. However, there's a long way to go yet for both teams!
Marco.
P.S Needless to say, the racist shit was inexcusable. That's eastern Europeans for you though - many are fundamentally racist.

yup they dont seem to realise they are either. their treatment of romas' is disgraceful. they are not the worst country tho not far off. i think hungary or slovakia got that dire accolade.
Maybe OF fans(am i allowed to use that now):ner: are too selfish and just believe they should win every game and no teams, certainly in scotland, should be able to beat them. I think Gers are suffering a bit of"boy we are the best" attitude at beginning and now just cant find a gear. celtic if allowed to play their game will do very well but most teams now saeem to know what to do with them and the inverted fullbacks to stymie them.
Yet you were doing it last season, having spent a similar amount? For me, your poor performances this season in Europe have been more about too many of your key players not performing to their capability, more than anything to do with money. There are plenty of teams in the competition doing better than Rangers or Celtic, without their budget.
Gerrard's remarks, IMO, make more sense in reference to the Champions League, where the sheer amount of money teams there are able to spend on top players, which neither Rangers or Celtic can compete with, gives them a huge advantage. In that respect, whoever wins the SPL title this season, and despite the form of the Edinburgh teams, it'll be down to one of us, despite automatic qualification for the CL, will have to spend a serious amount of money to have any hope of doing much!
Watched the highlights of the Celtic game last night, well as you say too many defensive errors.
Indeed, but the thing was we also created LOADS of good chances, which we couldn't put away. I think we nearly had as many shots on target as they did, and their keeper was superb! So that augurs well going forward, when Kyogo and Giorgios are fully fit, and start putting chances away like the team did earlier in the season.
However, defensively we're still sadly lacking. Hart has been superb, and pretty much blameless for the goals we've conceded. We'd have conceded a lot more if it hadn't been for him!
I think Starfelt is showing signs of promise and will be much better when Jullien returns. Carter-Vickers is a decent defender, but I'm not sure is suited to the system Ange plays, and the two young lads in the full-back positions have worked their socks off and are decent players, but not the answer full-time at this level. In that respect, we've certainly missed Taylor, and especially Juranovic, who IMO is a real class act and just needs a proper run in the team to show what he can do.
Only when all that is sorted out can we hope to win games regularly and build up some momentum and consistency, but I think it'll come.
Marco.
i think this statement from their foreign minister shows their lack of awareness. its very sad they cant or wont see it.
The Czech Foreign Minister has summoned UK ambassador Nick Archer after the Glen Kamara race row escalated into a diplomatic row.
Jakub Kulhanek took to social media to express his rage at what he described as “disgusting insults” against the young Sparta Prague fans who jeered Kamara throughout Rangers’ Europa League game.
The Fortuna liga club released a furious statement calling for a halt to criticism of the school kids who were allowed into the Letna Stadium.
Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard had hit out at the jeers in his post-match press conference after the game was supposed to be played behind closed doors as a result of previous racist abuse during a match with Monaco.
That was relaxed by UEFA to allow supervised Under-14s in the ground but they booed Kamara as well as other black Rangers players.
Their actions have been widely condemned but Kulhanek took to social media to say: “Enough! Intentionally spread, disgusting insults against Czech children in the media and on the internet do not belong to football and even less so to good relations between two countries.”
Sparta Prague said early as part of their statement: "Stop attacking our children! Our club will proudly defend our children - our future and our pride. Slandering children on the internet is extremely cowardly.
"We are seeing unprecedented xenophobic statements against the Czech Republic, its citizens and even its children on social media.
"You are describing the behaviour of children incorrectly, arrogating to yourself the right to judge the expression of emotions of six-year-old children who have no idea what racism is. It's an impertinence.
"We ask the representatives of Rangers FC to do their part to stop the xenophobic atmosphere directed towards our children, our beautiful country and its inhabitants."

Rangers actually didn’t spend anything on players this summer, other than their wages, which many of them are not earning.
Yeah, and I agree, but what I was getting at really was that the reason the team aren't as 'at it' as they were last season in Europe is much less to do with budget and much more to do with key players underperforming:)
Marco.

he says they didnt spend a penny last window too which may be true.. 2 windows and no money spent, so its maybe not surprising results in europe are poor. other sides dont let grass grow.
personally i think gerard wont be here next season.
not seen either match but both sides of OF won 2-1; celtic away to aberdeen, and rangers at home to hibs, who were 2nd top before this sequence of games.
Scotland vs. Israel, at Hampden, is just about to start on Sky Sports. A win and three points would be great for the boys!

Yeah, that was the target Denmark are much better side than us currently.
I watched the whole of the game last night. First half was DIRE... Indeed, but for Craig Gordon, we could've been 2-0 down!
Lots of huffing and puffing from us with no real penetration. However, the Faroes are now a much more disciplined side than they once were and extremely well organised and hard to break down. I think most teams out with of the top six-ranked nations would struggle there, and on that artificial pitch.
However, we got there in the end after (rather like Saturday) a better second half performance. It was nowhere near as good as Saturday's, which was the best I've seen a Scotland team play in YEARS. However, we achieved what was needed, which was the three points, in a game that until Steve Clarke arrived we'd have lost or drawn, trust me!
Clarke will take us to the World Cup and be the first manager to make us qualify for two consecutive major tournaments since, I don't know, Craig Brown? The team has improved massively under him, and it's coincided with a time when many of our players are playing at the highest level domestically, and we have some real talent in the ranks. Even though he's not my type of striker, Dykes is doing well, and long may it continue, but he won't always be the answer.
In that respect, the sooner that Griffiths is fully fit and banging in goals again for Dundee, the better, as I'm convinced he'll make Scotland a better team and be the missing link we need to go onto the next level, even simply from the accuracy of his dead ball delivery and free kicks! How many free kicks that Scotland have been awarded outside or around the box, since he was last in the team, would he have scored from? Would he have missed the penalty Dykes did against Israel, which could've easily cost us 2 points? I very much doubt it. THINK about that.
Anyway, I'm predicting that we'll beat Moldova and take a point from Denmark at Hampden...! Quatar, here we come!!:more::D

I think the Griffiths ship has sailed, he was good but not sure he’ll come back. Hopefully Nisbet will improve because right now we have no one else.
I agree about Nisbet, defo, but Griffo will be back, trust me! Don't forget he's only in his early 30s, and so if he screws the nut and plays to his potential, far from being a 'spent force'.
What we really need to be doing though is addressing why as a nation we're so good at producing great full-backs, but currently crap at producing international-class strikers!
Maybe it would help if Rangers and Celtic stopped signing so many foreigners?;)
Marco.
I think the Griffiths ship has sailed, he was good but not sure he’ll come back. Hopefully Nisbet will improve because right now we have no one else.
it looks that way at moment. but you never really can tell. its rare when someone has let themselves go to come back as good as they were, and he isnt getting any younger. but if anywhere is place for him to find it, i'd think dundee would be a good place as there is little pressure.
I agree with all of that. Thing is, a Griffiths at even 75% of what he was at his peak, IMO, is still better than a 100% Dykes;)
Marco.
Surprised no-one's been talking about the footy, chaps? And I'm not just saying that because your team dropped two points on Saturday;)
We should ALWAYS be discussing our teams, whether they win, lose or draw... Anyway, I did say after facing Hearts on the first day of the season that this year they were the real deal, and anyone who can go to Ibrox and take a point, certainly is, and they remain as the only unbeaten team in the SPL. Trust me, they'll also be formidable opposition when you play them at Tynecastle.
I haven't seen the game, or the highlights yet, so how did it go - anything controversial happen?:)
Anyway, for us it was all about getting another win away from home, including our first clean sheet on our travels. plus our injured players slowly starting to come back. In that respect, I was delighted to see big Giorgios come on as a sub and do well, who mark my words, when fully fit, will be a sensation.. But mostly very welcome to see the return of Mikey Johnston, who's skill and trickery down the wing has been very much missed!
Although they're different players, we'll now no longer miss the craft and dribbling skills of Ryan Christie, and how he was able to open up tight defences, as Mikey has all those skills and more! Should be interesting seeing how Jota (who's turning into quite a player) and him combine down the flanks, putting in superb crosses for Kyogo and/or Giorgios to bang in the goals!:D
However, arguably the biggest surprise/best news was how well Mr Bad Boy/forgotten man, Boli Boligoli settled into the role of left-back, in place of the injured Taylor. Apart from one bad error of judgement where he nearly gave away a penalty, his performance was very calm and assured, and he made some key interceptions. I, for one, always rated him and knew there was a player in there, and his Covid indiscretions should now be consigned to history.
In that respect, I'm glad he remained at the club, and think if he can get a sustained run in the team, then he'll prove to be an asset, as he's also good going forward. Defensively, we're starting to look much more solid. especially now Starfelt and Cameron-Vickers (who's so powerful and wins nearly every ball in the air) are starting to form a much better understanding. When Juranovic, Taylor and Jullien return, they'll bolster our defence even more.
So.... Next up, the Europa League, and trying to salvage some pride, plus perhaps revenge against Ferencvaros, who gubbed us last season, as I don't think we've got any hope of qualifying for the knockout stages. Should be a good game though, as will yours hopefully against Brondby - with wins for both of us!
Marco.

Thought you always watched the highlights of the games on Sportscene?;)
I've just watched the recorded highlights from the latter, including the Rangers game... The way I saw it, Hearts were virtually a non-entity in the first half, with Rangers having almost all the possession and chances, but bar one great strike and goal from Lundstram, couldn't put the ball in the net, although coupled with some great saves from Craig Gordon!
Then Hearts came much more into the game in the second half, and Rangers had McGregor to thank for a couple of good saves, plus the aforementioned Morelos missing numerous near-open goals, and demonstrating what I've been saying for ages that he's not the player he was a couple of years ago, and that Rangers badly lack some cutting edge up front! Then latterly McGregor uncharacteristically flapping at a corner from Mackay Steven, which Halkett scored from to give Hearts a deserved point for their 2nd half performance.
So yes, Rangers created more than enough chances to win the game, but their lack of incisiveness in front of goal is now starting to result in dropped points, and as you say, that's a major concern that must be addressed if they are to retain the title.
Marco.

WEll done to Celtic, watched some of the second half, they should have scored more. Rangers is BT Sports 3 8.00p kick off Thursday

All to do with Cop26 and Covid apparently
gers team is fairly predictable for tonight. gerard rarely springs a surprise hence i think we are becoming to obvious especially in europe... but good luck to them.

Hope you are right
There you go mate, 2-0, going on 4 nil, and near total domination. Easy peasy. God bless VAR, well, kind of!
Told you both of us would win!:)
The other good news for us is that Betis and Leverkusen played out a 1-1 draw, so that opens up our group nicely: https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/celtics-europa-league-group-opens-21933935
Given the start that both our teams made in their respective groups, what an achievement it would be if we could both qualify for the knockout stages...Still lots of football to be played yet, though!

It’s been a long day, looking after our grandson is hard work, as is watching Rangers just now, but a its a win which we deserved.
No comment on the game last night, Granty? Your apathy these days towards 'all things Rangers' seemingly knows no bounds!:ner:
;)
Marco.
ah yes, i forgot.. 2 nil but lost balogan to hamstring. it does the co efficient no harm.:D
gers won away to st mirren .. balogun made team, and morelos scored his 100th goal. difficult side Snt's especially at paisley. a full set of games on wednesday brings the first quarter of league to an end. Gers at home to the Dons while Celts are away to Hibs. Hibs form has been on wane while Dons won first game for a while yesterday.
No mention of our result yesterday, daftee, or were Gers that only team who played?:ner:;)
Yes, a hard fought win away against St Mirren, with 'smiler' lol, getting his 100th goal, even though it wasn't the most finessed of headers I've ever seen - the ball just arrived from the by-line and bounced off his big dome and into the net!
Good to see his celebration with the fans afterwards, who clearly love him, and the affinity he has with the them and the club.
Aye, we won 2-0 yesterday, against St Johnstone at home, who made it difficult by putting lots of men behind the ball, so the silky flowing football we've been known for under Ange was off the agenda. Still, we won the game with big Giorgios getting his first start and goal, which will do him the world of good, with a penalty in the end, slotted away nicely by Juranovic.
Anyway, the top 4 are now only separated by one point, and despite Celtic's much maligned defence we've now jointly conceded the fewest goals, along with Dundee Utd, which is six, two less than Rangers, whilst at the same time scoring 23, as the league's top scorers.
Therefore. although we're far from the finished article yet, we're now starting to get consistency of results, with consistency of selection, which I always said would be the case - as well as getting some of our main players back from injury. Two major ones still two come, which will make a big difference, and that's Forrest and Jullien!

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Walter Smith, who was a true Rangers legend, and even though his highly-successful Rangers teams, back in the day, were often responsible for causing me much heartache, he was a man I always respected.
RIP Walter.

yeah, pretty incipid and defencively turgid, his later sides, but he was under constraints and showed he could squeeze results. As much as he would put an arm round the likes of gazza and make him better, he could also scare the shit out of the toughest cb too. thats old school greatness.

If City had played against West Ham as well as they did against Brighton there wouldn't have been a penalty shootout :)
City's movement in the West Ham box was sluggish and uncoordinated. As a result West Ham's defence didn't have to guess where players were - they were in full view and under tabs all the time.
Against Brighton (in the first half at least) City's movement was speedy and coordinated and Brighton's defence didn't know who was where, and what hit them.
Well done West Ham.
not had much of a look tbh but poor from our perspective, and good on yours i'm guessing. :) just up tbh, as leg has been an issue
reading reports, we played poorly, and yet considering the start, it was a point gained i suppose.

Lots of the press have him and the back room staff going to Villa, they have money and Rangers don’t, can be the only attraction. Villa will not make into Europe so its not that, unless the powers to be in Liverpool want him to have Premier experience before he replace Kloop. If he fails at Villa then there is no chance he will be going to Liverpool.

Also last week he said he was happy.

being a half glass full person, hopefully he will stick by his recents statements, as you say there is no shortage of money in the EPL, but Villa are a long way off a top 6 team with current players.
Well I’ve not said very much about my team, Norwich, this season... Very strange weekend, we get our first win and then sack the manager, which clearly must have been preordained... still felt a bit cruel though, I was a big fan of Daniel Farke but at the end of the day 2 points from 10 games in the Premiership is only going to mean the manager goes one way... So who next? Frank Lampard supposedly favourite but I don’t see it happening, and apart from being a big name has very little to offer us in a Houdini escape in my opinion. Stevie G also rumoured but no chance he’d want to come to little old Norwich. Shortlist of three apparently, Dean Smith and the Norwegian guy Kjetil Knutsen as well as fat Frank - Kjetil Knutsen would be my bet, as he’ll be the cheapest.
Sadly, the “self-sustaining” model Delia et al are so keen on protecting just doesn’t work when you’re up against Saudi sheikhs and oligarchs - will be a miracle if we don’t go down but I always hope for a Roy of the Rovers moment or two...

I think the biggest issue has been the team gelling - sold Buendia for £50m and then spent that on about 8 players, some of whom show some real promise, but not at this level just yet. (Norman was fantastic on Saturday - one to watch...) as far as I’m concerned, not taking Derby’s lowest ever points tally (11) is what I’d be happy with! Every season in the EPL for the last two decades has just been torture, much more enjoyable seeing them dominate the Championship than being embarrassing in the Premier League. But I still won’t give up hope until it’s mathematically impossible - Christmas?

i agree , i think he will be away after another very good performance tonight.
I honestly have no idea why Farke wasn’t playing Gilmour at Norwich, and that is a huge part of why they have been lacking in the middle of the park. There must have been a bust up or something, just hope the new Manager makes the most of him or he’ll be recalled almost inevitably if he’s just sitting on the bench.

Watching the England game, Albania haven’t actually been that terrible but England are on fire, 4-0 up after just over half an hour, Chilwell doing well. Kane shows he hasn’t lost it unless he’s in a Spurs shirt...

judging by result only, the new manager doesn't have his problems to seek.. well beaten again in a cup game v a team who have struggled to get points in league.

A disgrace robin. No other word for it. They should donate their wage to charity and be ashamed of themselves.

The ref was a bit card happy, and we should have scored a couple more, Hearts did hit the bar a couple of times , 2 decent keepers on show as well.

To quote the Ross County manager, “they were playing until Celtic scored” , disgraceful scenes following the goal, it was only 3 points, not winning the league.

yeah some how he gave 7 mins injury time which was a joke, but he would have played more i think. thats what you get when club and fans constantly claim they are always cheated.

Sad to see him go, great prospect but he needs first team football. Looks like a decent price as well, I’m another couple will be going as well, hopefully they will be replaced.

Everton have signed Scotland right-back Nathan Patterson from Rangers on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
The 20-year-old moves to Goodison Park for £10m plus add-ons - which is a club record fee received for Rangers.
Patterson is Everton's second signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of Ukraine left-back Vitalii Mykolenko.
"It was an easy choice to sign. This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous," he said.
Speaking to Everton TV, Patterson added: "Obviously we aren't in the place where we want to be right now but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that."
Everton are 15th in the Premier League and eight points above the relegation places following a run of one win in their past 12 league games.

Could end up as a record fee, but I think others may follow him out, as we have already stated. If players leave we need to bring in replacements, hopefully Ross Wilson has been doing his homework.

delia ex celtic says he is a good lad and wont be phased at all. i think its a great bit of business.
edit.. he is already valued on transfermarket at 3.6m, which was more than young patterson was.

nice to see big Joe Aribo have 2 great games with Nigeria. Well good in one way, but it might make his leaving a bit more likely. He has probably been our best player this season.

yup, a fair bit more than patterson, who's manager, benitez, has just been canned. that could mean issues for him if new guy isnt interested. everton heading for relegation issues soon.

Apparently it was an initial 25m euro fee but add ons could rise to 40m euro,... Maybe our most valuable player lol. Obviously there is no price to buy, but heard there may be an option for another years loan.
Juninho Bacuna is joining Birmingham City as well. He promised much and is a good player but never fitted in with the style and the league. His workrate wasnt great either. Undisclosed fee, but im guessing it wont be much as there was an issue with wage differences which we will have had to settle either in a reduced fee or a wage payment.
i see christian eriksen is signing for brentford and going to play again... i cant help feeling this is a bad idea, but good luck to him.

yes robin, a good win v 2nd in germany side; even without halland, their players are all way above ours in ratings.
big slap with celtic getting hammered at home, for the seasons points total tho. both still halftime tho and lots can happen.
thought jack made the difference, and kent played very well too, as did all the team
