View Full Version : The All New FOOTY Thread 21/22
time for a new footy thread as preseason is already underway.
Not a lot of transfer activity up here with old firm(or am i allowed to call it that now):ner:
We recently brought in big unit Lunndstrum from Shef Utd on a free(which is a good bit of business imo) but nothing else appears to be in pipline. Maybe awaiting any outgoing?
Celts have signed 2 or 3 yougish lads so far. maybe also awaiting sales..
Man U are signing Jadon Sancho and possibly Raphael Varane too. both would be good aquisitions imo.

So Marco, what did you think of your team’s first game under the new manager?
supposedly did ok, bar ralston and barkas. 1-1 and still in it.
Yeah, guys. Most interesting - will comment after brekkie!

Both teams ended up with 10 men
Yeah, Bitton was stupid for lifting his hands to someone (the diving idiot from Midtjylland who eventually got his comeuppance for doing the same again in the second half, and was sent off), but Bitton was also a liability defensively throughout the game until he was sent off - and is fundamentally NOT the answer as a central defender.
Murray, as young as he is, was a much more assured and capable replacement and will now play the second leg, as I doubt Starfelt (who I rate) will be registered in time. Barkas is still an accident waiting to happen, and indeed last night we no longer had to wait, as he flapped at at free kick, and actually moved his hands out of the way as he thought the ball was going wide!
It didn't though, and hit the inside of the post and went into the net.... I'm probably alone in this, but I still think he has something to offer, and so *if* he gets another chance, I won't judge him conclusively until I've seen him play behind a proper defence, and by that I mean when big Julien returns, Starfelt has signed, and Abada's in there along with anyone else we sign in that area.
However, he may not get another chance now and Ange could give Bain the nod for the second game until a new keeper comes in. We'll see.I'm also liking the look of the new Japanese boy coming in, who I think will be an exciting player, and there'll probably be some more.
Positives from last night, in terms of player performances?
Young Welsh had a great game, Abada looks like the real deal, and who I predict will soon become a fans favourite. The midfield looks A-ok, with Soro, doing a kind of Scott Brown/Neil Lennon (of old) role, in terms of breaking up play and spraying the ball about, and very accurate with this passing. McGregor looks like he will be a good captain, and still a top-notch player, and Turnbull and Rogic are both quality.
We've still got Forrest to come in, who's a great player, so no worries there, and Christie played a blinder last night, who I think could be tempted to stay for another season. It's the striking positions that are more of a concern, with Edouard still looking like he wants away and so playing games in 3rd gear, to avoid any injuries, and Ajeti, although looking better in friendlies, still has to prove himself where it matters!
Griffo needs to get some game time to see where he's at, so can't judge him until I see him, but I suspect he could feature in the second leg in Denmark.
Given the state of the team and lack of players/strength in depth before the game, I think 1-1 was a good result. However, having watched the match, we should have won, as over the 90 mins we created more chances and were the better team. Had Bitton not been sent off, and we hadn't been forced to sacrifice Abada (who had put us 1-0 up and was playing well), we would've probably gone onto win the game - and of course the away goal rule has been scrapped for this tournament, so that will help!
Lots of work to do though in the return leg, but I think we'll be in better shape by then, and if we play as well or better than we did last night, we should go through, although I expect Midtjylland to be a bigger threat and offer a tougher test at home.
Overall, I'm pleased with how Ange is getting the team to play. His style will take a while to implement, not only for the current players to get used to, but new players being signed to fit into the system. In that respect, I can't see Celtic being at anywhere near 100% and how Ange wants them to play, until towards the end of the year, and by then Rangers could be well clear.
However, I'm confident that it will come together, but we'll just need to be patient. However, when it does and the players have started clicking, I believe that Ange will have built one of the deadliest and most exciting Celtic teams seen for decades!!
Marco.
starfelt cant play if signed until next round mate. you go with what you have. bitton obviously wont either.
Ah ok, I wasn't sure. One thing that's been disgraceful though is the enormity of time it's taken Celtic to conclude transfers, and also get the new manager in - and it's always the same dillydallying pish every year!
Thankfully, the fans have still backed the club with sales season tickets, despite the board doing the best to give the impression that they don't give a fuck... The 'suits' behind the scenes really do need be more answerable to supporters who ultimately pay their wages.
Marco.

they have an old fashioned system and its slow. no dof yet and that would help but then said suits wouldnt get their vote etc . the majority shareholder doesnt seem to care as long as he and lawwell get their money each year.
the fans deserve better.
Ah so you mean there *is* a system?;)
The rest I agree with 100%.
Anyway, Starfelt now looks like a done deal: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12360829/celtic-transfer-news-defender-carl-starfelt-agrees-to-join-from-rubin-kazan
Let's hope there are a few more new faces to follow soon!
Marco.
Looks like more bodies in the door are imminent... I'll settle for the line-up, shown here, when we play Hearts at Tynecastle on the opening day of the new season:
https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/how-celtic-could-line-up-24590500
Was watching some vids last night of Kyogo Furahashi, our new attacking winger/striker. Wowzer, that boy can play!!
Marco.
dare say they will spend now they have sold ajer. why brenford want him ive no idea. not the right fit i would have thought. he's not really a backs to wall defender
I think some of the guys coming into Celtic were already in the pipeline before the sale of Ajer (so I'd expect a flurry of signings in the next few weeks), but his £13.5m will no doubt top up the kitty!
Not bad business, eh, considering he only cost £500,000?:) But yes, he'd be better suited to Serie A or La Liga, not Brentford, which I suspect will simply be a stepping stone to better things, and in the meantime earning a wage considerably higher than he was on at Celtic.
However, it's all exciting stuff at the moment for us, seeing who's coming in and what type of team Ange is building, who incidentally I rate very highly as a manager. No idea how successful we'll be this season, in terms of winning trophies, but I think we're on an exciting journey!

sure they along with others were being worked on. exciting for you, i agree. we are not doing anything currently by looks of it. i still expect to lose at least 1 tho.
Gers playing Brighton today and R Madrid tomorrow.. half time was 0-0.. nice to hear and see 8500 fans in ground

Yeah decent performance today, pity about the lack of goals, the young boy Kelly looking good, lots of players getting a minutes which is the main thing. Marco might not be so happy after the Celtic game.

Missed the game today as it was my grandson’s birthday , but seems a decent result
celtic playing away in europe v Midtjylland . 11 after first game so a straight win needed for both sides tonight. good luck to marcos side. Midtjylland are fairly poor so they should beat them.

not seen team, so i take it bain is playing. not much between them tbh. both lacking confidence.
if it goes to et, it might well be a test of fitness for both especially celtic as they are behind on preseason

Extra time , Marco busy biting his nails
Extra time , Marco busy biting his nails
i fell asleep.. oh well its europa for celts this year. side still has a number of players to fill in by then so hopefully they will manage; a chech side i'm told await them.
I'll comment more on this later, chaps. Needless to say though that I wasn't biting my nails Robin, as I *knew*, the way the game was going that we would go out. As I said last week, the 1-1 draw was a decent result, given the state and paucity of players in our squad, so I had little confidence that we'd win in Denmark, so no surprises there. I'd pretty much written off progress to the CL this season. You'd need to have been blind to have believed otherwise.
The only positive is that despite the team being shite, we still created more than enough chances to have won that game last night and the tie overall, but defensively we were an utter shambles. Good job we didn't win, and only delayed the inevitable, as PSV Eindhoven would've murdered us in the next round!!
This is about the fourth season in a row now where we've been forced to go into CL qualifiers with a makeshift defence, and worse now this season with a bunch of kids, and you simply cannot hope to progress at that level with not only that lack of experience in your team, but also a painful lack of quality in key areas, coupled with players (such as Edouard) who simply want away and are playing in 3rd gear!
And that sad state of affairs (if you're a Celtic fan) is ALL down to the board and those who run the club, for the embarrassing and disgraceful way they've dragged their heels, time and time again, in the transfer market and not completed deals that should've been done and dusted or strengthened the squad when it was patently obvious it was needed.
So Celtic now have a MASSIVE rebuilding job ahead of them, which will take time, and this new manager needs to be given it, as I'm confident that he'll get it right and build something good.
However, as I said before, don't expect any kind of 'real Celtic' until at least Christmas (once the new signings bed in), or possibly even after the January transfer window, as he'll need at least two recruitment windows, and time for those players to settle, before the team will be ready to mount a credible challenge to Rangers for the title.
Therefore, get ready to celebrate 2-in a row!;)
Marco.
No thoughts on that, daftees?:ner:;)
Btw, well done for beating Real Madrid. Friendly or no friendly, it was good advert for Scottish football, and Rangers have been excellent ambassadors in that respect since Gerrard's been at the helm:thumbsup:
Marco.
its odd that the board have been either dragging heels or being just been incompetent. they have known about this rebuild for a long time too.
still it doesn't hurt rangers chances any i suppose for league, which i think will be harder this year as we will be targets.. also hearts are back, and hibs and dons have strengthened too. also of course celtic will want it back and crowds will be back.
talk that gers have agreed deal to bring in man utd u23 midfielder charlie mccann who is an u19 roi international.

It’s all very strange , not too sure what’s going on with the Parkhead board, a couple of years ago they spent a few quid on the disco lights for European nights. THen drag their heels appointing the new manager , leaving it too late to sign new players to ensure qualification, all very strange. I was looking down the squad for last nights game, lots of names I’d never heard off, kids I presume. at this point its too early to make predictions need to wait and see who’s where when the transfer window closes.
its odd that the board have been either dragging heels or being just been incompetent. they have known about this rebuild for a long time too.
It's not only odd mate, but for a club the status of Celtic, embarrassing!
Not only with new signings taking forever, but the whole Eddie Howe fiasco, and the UTTER AGE it took them to appoint a new manager. Someone, probably DD, need his arse felt!! It's the stuff of fan protests, and if a host of new players supposedly 'on their way', don't arrive soon, and the team's domestic form is bad, I can see them gathering outside the ground with their signs of 'sack the board' - especially as the fans have backed the inept, tight-wadded bastards to the hilt, with record season ticket sales!
For me, this malaise goes way back to when BR tried to sign John McGinn (which since his dad was a former director of the club, should've been a shoe in), and wasn't given the funds he needed, which in turn I'm certain was the catalyst for Rodgers leaving, as it would've been patently clear to him that the board weren't matching his ambitions. If they had, I don't believe he'd have left when he did, certainly halfway through a season.
And the decline, despite papering over the cracks with in some ways a 'lucky' 9th title, and the treble-treble (both largely achieved on the back of what Rodgers had built), has since got worse, including players, such as Tierney, Lustig, Van Dijk, Boyata and Craig Gordon, who were never properly replaced..
However, I fundamentally believe that big Ange is the man to successfully rebuild the team, and it'll take time, but will he be given it? We'll see...
still it doesn't hurt rangers chances any i suppose for league, which i think will be harder this year as we will be targets.. also hearts are back, and hibs and dons have strengthened too. also of course celtic will want it back and crowds will be back.
You'd probably get the biggest odds ever at the bookies now for a Celtic title win. Not sure what they are, but I'm sorely tempted to put £100 on it, just for a giggle! Barring a miracle, we've no chance, mate. You know I'm normally an optimist, but I'm also a realist. and you simply cannot win any race (title or otherwise) with this much of a handicap.
Even when Win Jansen came in, to stop Rangers winning 10-in a row, he still had the nucleus of a quality team to build from, and players such as Henrik Larsson! AP simply doesn't have that luxury, and so will need 6 months or so to do what should've been done 12 months ago! Anyway, I guess it'll be a fun ride!
You're absolutely right about Hearts being back, and Hibs (and in particular) Aberdeen being much stronger, thus making the league stronger and your challenge more difficult. Let's fact it, it couldn't have been much easier last season! In that respect, I'll certainly be looking for Broony to do us a few favours against you lot!!:ner:;)
Marco.
Robin, in terms of 'what's going (or rather gone) on at Parkhead, see my last post!:)
Marco.
celtic are 6/4. not great odds tbh.
They don't deserve that!
Marco.

aberdeen are a tasty 80/1
That won't happen either, but they could come second!
Marco.
man u 17/2.. thats not a bad bet actually as city are odds on. liverpool are 5/1; chelsea 9/2
So as I'm shite at working out odds, how much would I win by putting £100 on at 6/4?:)

I don't really know enough about English footy to gamble on it, but yes that sounds like a good bet. So for me it would be roughly 200 notes, give or take...
Might do it for a giggle, and be my first bet in years, and if I win, whatever it is will go to charity, or possibly more likely, a new frock for the princess!:D

yes its maybe harsh, but non the less fairly accurate. they made profits on sales but of late have just been investing to little, too late and then, badly. too many expensive loans, none of which really worked bar forster.

First bit is spot on, apart from the article in question being harsh. It wasn't, it was frank, honest and full of badly needing saying 'home truths'!
In terms of Hart, we were close to getting him last year, then ended up with Barkas (who I still think would be a different keeper playing behind a defence worthy of the name), and I rate Hart.
At one time, he was approaching world class, and as a keeper you don't lose that. He just needs a new challenge to ignite his career, and he'd certainly get that this season at Celtic!:eek:
Marco.
i liked joe tbh but everywhere he has been of late he just hasnt been good enough sadly. but pleased for him if he gets the move.

Lol - it's called a MARRIAGE mate, as in an *equal* partnership between two people, who love, respect and care for each other; sadly a concept that little exists these days.
However, thanks for the compliment. In terms of clothes, if you make it down, you can help her tidy up her room!:doh::rolleyes:;)

Yup... I think he thrives at high-profile clubs and playing in front of a big home crowd, which he hasn't really had since he left Man City, and will certainly get at Celtic, once (if) all the fans get back in.
Marco.
So how are we feeling about the first day of the new season? You guys should be a shoe-in for 3 points at home against Livi, before we kick off at freakin' 8pm (what's that about?) against Hearts...
I've still to decide how many goals we'll lose by!

LIvi have proved a hard team to beat in the past but hopeful for 3 points today. We are a 1.30 kick off all very strange
fancy gers will be in a very tight game as livy usually start very well. Being Ibrox though i will go for a 2-1 win, Celtic I suspect will be too good for Hearts. 1-3.
Nah, I don't see it that way, mate... For me, Rangers will want to put down a marker, as I think they've improved since last year, and with them being at home (where they're usually at their strongest), I can see them knocking 4 or 5 past Livi.
Match prediction: Rangers 4 Livingston 1.

could have been different if we didnt get early goal tho. they played 10 behind and basically booted every ball at our keeper. poor from them, and that includes their bad tackling
Sure, but I knew that, one way or another, it would result in a comfortable win for Rangers.
Marco.
There you are, see... Pumped 2-1 by Hearts. Granty, you need to stop thinking that Celtic are (or even close to) the Celtic of old!;)
Interesting game though, with Craig Gordon making two wonder saves at the end tp ensure his team got all three points.. Yes, the irony isn't lost on me, with a goalkeeper we sold too soon and far better that what we currently have at the club.. I'll comment more later.
However, as I said, don't expect to see anything approaching the 'real Celtic' until at least Xmas, as there's LOTS of rebuilding to do!

That would be the goalkeeper Celtic let go, its only game one, long way to go.
Indeed, Robin. My point though is that when currently making any predictions on Celtic games, you must factor in that they're at the beginning of a massive rebuilding job, so there'll be more than a few 'shock results', until they get things together and start to click:)
What's interesting though is that you can see what Ange is trying to do, which with a bit more quality on the field, and the right players to implement it, should pay dividends and create something rather exciting. That's not going to happen though until we get a new keeper (hopefully Hart), new L/B and R/B, and Julien returns from injury to play alongside Starfelt, plus a centre-forward to replace Edouard!
Marco.
No comment on this, Granty?:)

WEll ive not really seen any of his games but by reports not much has changed so far; which is probably because not much of the personell have either both on and off pitch. Same coaches, same board etc. There is a limit to what he can do until he at least is backed with what he needs.
Is he the man to do it all? can any one man do it all? time shall tell. I think he is a decent sort tho

I love Joe Hart for what he's done with City, but with that there is the realisation that he has faults, and doesn't seem to have done anything to rectify those faults.
Fault 1 - Free Kicks.
He has the habit of planting himself, with hands just above his knees.
Both feet solidly on the ground, and both hands solidly just above his knees.
These 2 things combine to not reacting fast enough.
Fault 2 - Going for low balls in the corners of the goal.
Put a ball in low and fast towards his left, and the majority of the time it will go in.
His record is slightly better going to his right, but not by much.
Fault 3 - Ball Distribution.
He's better Jordan Pickford, but that's not a recommendation.
Joe still has a tendency to hoof the ball upfield for no particular reason.

Joe still has a tendency to hoof the ball upfield for no particular reason.
yeah i liked joe in the day. alas he isnt the keeper he was. and i doubt he will be again. shame.
Dons won v utd 2-0 and Hibs beat Well away 3-2 so bot go to top of table with hearts and Rangers. impressed by both sides
Thanks, Chris. Well, that's better than the faults of Barkas and Bain (our current main goalies)
Fault 1 - Both make better gas fitters than goalkeepers.
Fault 2 - See 1 (then repeat)!:D
So... What would you say Harty's strengths were?:)
Marco.

Rangers are currently head and shoulders the best team in the SPL, and will remain so for most if not all of this season. Dons will be massively improved this year, due to their new manager and some inspired signings, and so will run Celtic very close for second spot.
If Celtic had had more cutting edge last night in the final third, they'd have ran over the top of Hearts, as they had 75% possession in the first half alone, but just couldn't convert their chances into goals, whilst always looking vulnerable on the break, so I'm not sure how good Hearts will be when they come up against the better more 'sorted' teams, such as you've mentioned, and of course Rangers.

I haven't seen Joe playing for a good while now, but I remember him being brave and facing off opposition forwards.
He also had an accurate long throw out from his area.
His close ball control was too shabby either, so OK with his feet.

Cheers, that was a good little montage:thumbsup:
He seems to be a pretty good shot-stopper, with good reflexes and quite commanding in his box, which for us are badly needed qualities, and the polar opposite of what we have now!
As I said, I think he'd be an excellent signing:)

celtic were thinking about hart when he left city i remember but got forster. he was i think linked to us too back in day. also mcCarthy is linked strongly with celtic as he is a free now. was a decent player in day too

no, not really.. i dont currently know how good he still is tbh, but i know he was good. Many gers fans wanted him even tho he's a celtic fan. I understand he had some injury worries but think they are behind him. Might just be he was wanting too much cash for his last club like cahill.
Lol - just pulling your leg when you said 'in his day'. That day also has to be NOW, if Celtic are to sign him. Same of course applies with Hart, but I know much more about him than McCarthy:)
In any case, Celtic are being linked with more players at the moment than you and I have had hot dinners! I want to see less TALKING and more ACTION, which leads to some signings - and preferably before Xmas!!;)

Joe Hart's decline at City properly started from around the time Pellegrini announced that Guardiola would be coming.
Joe knew he wouldn't get many opportunities to play under Guardiola.
The confidence knock carried over to Euro 2016, and the rest is history.
He could regain that confidence, and maybe it will come back with Celtic.
I hope so, but I'm not holding my breath.
All interesting stuff, Chris, and I largely agree. My view, especially with goalkeepers, is that you never lose your natural ability, simply that with age your body may struggle to execute it as well as it once did!;)
And for me, Hart has bags of such ability, however it remains to be seen how much the passage of time has eroded it, although I do think he could realise his remaining potential at Celtic, and in time form the backbone of a successful team, so I hope that we sign him:cool:
Marco.
Rangers, should they get through the tie with Malmo will play Olympiacos or Lugorets in final round.
Certainly not easy as both teams are very decent but probably the best they could get.
At this stage in their season Malmo have to be favs tho.
Not that it's stopped us before. Alas several top player missing but hopeful we can get a result away.
Good luck with that, mate. I hope you progress as far in the tournament as possible, and once again do Scottish football proud, including raising the all-important co-efficient, whilst we're PISH!:D

obviously financially its a no brainer to get into the cl groups. only issue is when you get there, you find most teams are better than you, by a margin.
still the money would be game changing i guess as long as we also win league.
its all in future tho and best way to see it is that a few seasons ago we were playing in lower leagues so its been a great journey.
as for co-efficients i think rangers have now passed celitc in table as we lost a 0 year while you lost a good one.
Yup, it's all good stuff for you at the moment and you'd had to wait a long time to enjoy your well-earned success.
As I've said before mate, these things come in cycles, and right now it's your team's time to shine before the pendulum swings the other way again, but it won't be this season. I reckon that Rangers could get a double this season or more, so enjoy it while you can:)

Nah - WAY too much football still to be played over both legs! TBH, I'd fancy Rangers against pretty much anyone at Ibrox.
If they can get at least one goal back before the end (at 2-1), they'll still have a good chance of progressing.
Marco.
Lol, I'm not allowed live TV anyway.
As much as being in cl is great financially we are not a cl team as of yet.

early in season and we got caught cold at start of 2nd half. always a dangerous moment. if we get one back we have a chance but im not hopeful.
such is life and maybe it will kick the pants and realise we haven't strengthened enough this year.
Hark at negative boy, lol - I thought you were a glass half-full type? If Celtic had the team Rangers have at the moment, no way would I be writing them off yet!
Marco.
young stevie nicked one at death(not like him) so a little window of opportunity opens. 2-1 it finishes, but a poor performance overall. a few games in and we would hammer them
Told ya! I felt that they'd nick one (nice goal, too)... That goal could be *so* vital! I thought Rangers were well below par tonight, probably only at 75% of their capability, and they missed Aribo and Morelos.
So if they can only lose 2-1 away from home, playing well below par, then at Ibrox playing much more at full capacity they can turn the tie in their favour - and I can tell you that this team play much better at home than away, so I'm confident you'll get thorugh:cool:

We were piss poor, poor defense , sloppy goals to give away. Would not give any the Rangers players pass marks apart from Wright and Davo. Malmo were gifted the 2 goals but the bottom line we were really poor. The bench was light on options which didn’t help. But 2-1 changes everything, I would expect us to win at Ibrox and go through.
yes alf should be fit for 2nd leg and that will be a game changer if he is up for it. he will pull that defense apart. this is where his strength lies; in pulling players away from area so our att mids can find room..

This could be an interesting twist, if what happened before in similar circumstances, happens again: https://thecelticstar.com/shades-of-sion-and-legia-warsaw-for-celtic-as-midtjyllands-brazilian-star-juninho-played-while-suspended/
It also looks like Buta is a done deal for right back, which I think will be a good signing. Now we just need a left back, as Greg Taylor isn't the answer. I'd also like to see another centre-half come in, to cover until Julien returns.
However, *most importantly*, we NEED to get Edouard out of the door, ASAP, and spend the reported £20m on an immediate replacement, as he's simply not at the races and the main reason (or rather the fact that we don't have a fully fit, willing and suitably talented goalscorer, which his lazy presence is currently preventing from being there), why we're not winning games!
Yes, the defence is shit, but if we'd had an in-form striker to put away the MULTITUDE of chances we've created in recent games, despite our crap defence, we would've won some of those games. So a new top-notch striker, for me, is now the biggest priority for Celtic.

tHe problem might be that Edouard doesn’t fancy Brighton and is looking for higher profile team.
Perhaps, but I believe he'll be off (to someone, Brighton or otherwise), sooner, rather than later. If not, he needs dropped, as we cannot continue playing him, if he doesn't want to be here and operating in 3rd gear.
I'd give Ajeti a run, as I don't really think he's been given a fair crack of the whip, possibly playing alongside Griffo, when he recovers from injury, and let Edouard cool his heels on the bench, as right now that's where he deserves to be, not thinking he's an automatic pick for a starting position!
We're in a transitional stage anyway, and in the middle of a massive rebuild, so what difference would it make giving Ajeti (and/or Griffo) a chance, as things couldn't be much worse up front than they are. I'd rather try that. and do something different and lose games, rather than the same old, same old, resulting in precisely the same outcome!
Marco.
im inclined to think he is suffering from a form of long covid. why any team would pay 20m for him, especially when you could sign him for free in a few months is beyond me.
Long Covid? That's an interesting one! Where did you pluck that from?:)
I doubt it, as if so he should've declared that to the manager and therefore be unfit to play. I'm also sure if that were the case, it would've revealed itself in training.
Why pay £20m? Well, when switched on, fit and in form (which questionable long Covid aside) you'd suspect would be the case at another new club, he's one of the best strikers in Europe. I mean, he scored 22 goals last season, playing largely in 2nd gear in struggling Celtic side.
Plus look at his record at under-21 level for France. The guy's undoubtedly quality, but his time is well and truly up at Celtic, unless he doesn't get a move, is put on the bench, as I said, and given a damn good kick up the backside, then by some miracle turns into the player he was under BR!:D
Unlikely to happen.
Marco.
well he and celtic might not know it; it seems to have various forms and with him being fit originally it might not be so obvious. his physical performances since he caught it are way down. lethargic tbh. hs goal scoring in europe isnt great tbh. i did like him tho when he was fit and interested. He is more of a natural goalscorer than Alf but his record isnt any better if you take u21 footy out of equasion. Just with , what is it, 5 months at most til he can sign for free and make himself a lot of money, as a player, i'd wait and as a club i would too. Nothing to stop his agent sorting this out right now tho and may well be doing just that as tapping rules dont cover them.
Fair enough, but if he's suffering from the effects of long Covid, trust me he'll know by the fact that his body would soon tell him! And if so, and he's simply not fit to play, then he shouldn't be playing, end of.
On current form, I certainly wouldn't have him starting games, especially when we need goals. I'd play some of the reserves (Karamoko Dembele, for example) instead of him, alongside the likes of Ajeti.
He hasn't scored loads of goals in Europe recently because Celtic have been shite and not been much in Europe, and you can't just dismiss his superb record at France under-21 level. It's a big indication of his inherent quality.
Whether he's 'worth' £20m or not is subjective, but fit and on form he's certainly a natural goal scorer, and there are plenty of strikers in the EPL. who couldn't lace his boots, and who have gone to clubs for much more!:)
Marco.
they will play him as they want to sell him; he needs to be in shop window. and yes as i said i think he is a good player.
Well, for me RESULTS come first, before *anything else*, and with him in the team at the moment he's a liability, not an asset. If he's to play, then he needs to EARN his place in the team, which at the moment he certainly isn't doing.
Yes, you said he was a good player, but you were being very critical of his market value, which for me, given what I've outlined, is unjustified. He's defo worth that amount at his age, current level of talent, and also potential.
Marco.

only critical as he is nearing out of contract mate. Not on ability.
Yups, fair enough, but if you want a top-notch striker *NOW*, who in any decent team (when fit) will almost certainly guarantee you goals, then £20m is a fair price (one could almost say a bargain), especially for rich EPL clubs!:)

hearing now its become a non issue re celtic.. complex situation but there are time limits anyway, but looks like he wasnt suspended for that game.
as you were:D
Yeah, that was always a long shot!:D TBH, I'm glad we're out of the CL, simply to save any further embarrassment.
You made the point earlier about Rangers not yet being a CL side, which I understand but don't wholly agree with, as they beat plenty of CL standard opposition (such as Porto) last year in the Europa league, but at the moment Celtic are arguably not even good enough for the Europa league, so if by some fluke we'd got through to the next round of the CL, as a result of the Danes breaking the rules, we'd only have been royally pumped by whatever opposition we'd have faced next!
And that would've been bad for team morale and what we need to do on the domestic front. The reality is, we're simply not currently at, or even near, that level, especially defensively, although Hart will make a big difference, as indeed will Starfelt when he settles in and builds up a good relationship with his team mates.
It'll be hard enough for us tonight in the Europa league, against Jablonec, as the Czechs will certainly be no pushovers, especially at home. In that respect, aside from winning the match if we can (not confident), I think we'll need to draw or not lose by more than 2 goals, if not it'll be very difficult for us to progress.
However, the recent new signings will help, and with Hart in goal tonight (which seems likely), we're unlikely to lose soft goals due to bad judgement/positioning by the keeper, and his commanding presence will no doubt give confidence to the rest of the defence, who are currently painfully lacking in such.
As I've said before, we're in the middle of a MASSIVE rebuilding programme, which IMO will take at least 12 months to come to full fruition, so Celtic fans need to embrace and understand that fact, be patient, and stop moaning about bad results like spoiled children, thinking that Celtic have some divine right to enjoy constant success [as indeed I've been hearing recently on phone-ins, listening to their shortsighted and dimwitted nonsense]
Marco.
youve got a good few new faces potentially for this match; dunno if they are on the list tho. Czech footy is fairly good tho and they were 3rd i think so must be fairly decent.
Yup, on both counts. In that respect, it'll be interesting to see if Kyogo starts, or gets a chunk of the game, and how he performs. I think he'll take a while to settle into Scottish football, and a whole different culture, but if that goes ok, I think he's got the potential to light up the SPL and be a real fans favourite!:)
Marco.

Interesting team, and one I wholly approve of:
Hart
Ralston * Bitton * Starfelt * Taylor
Soro * Turnbull * McGregor (c)
Abada * Forrest
Furuhashi
Good to see 'superstar Edouard' dropped and warming the bench where he currently belongs!
We'll see how things pan out... Totally new team though, so who knows? Let's just sit back and enjoy the ride...:D

4-2 in the end , but Celtic should have scored at least another couple
yes marco will be pleased with win even if they are still fragile at back..
Yeah, the most pleasing thing is the win, and Ange's first during competitive games in charge, which will be a boost for his confidence and also that of the team. I guess that any 2-4 win away from home in Europe these days has to be considered as a good result, against not a brilliant team, but certainly a capable one in some respects, who let's remember were unbeaten at home.
Other positives? Abada scored another goal and always looks a threat going forward, and I think will prove to be a good signing. Kyogo scoring a superb (Larsson-esque) goal on his full debut, and who defo looks like quality. Mark my words: this guy is not only going to put bums on seats, but get them off them too, with excitement!
Christie once again shone, even as a substitute and scored a great header, so for me should be given a financially rewarding new contract, to keep him at the club. He's a superb player, often dangerous and creative, scores vital goals and always gives 100%.
Joe Hart, although arguably culpable at the second goal (as he was a bit too far out), and helpless at the first, was calm and assured throughout, plus made a crucial save at 4-2, to stop it going to 4-3, and I'm sure will get better and form the bedrock of our defence.
Aside from the win, the biggest positive though was you can see the team notably improving with every game, and crucially, positive contributions from all the new signings. Although he's been shaky on occasions, I think Starfelt will come good, especially when he's part of a proper new-look defence, once the new fullbacks come in, along with Julien and possibly another centre half, as you can see the qualities he has to offer in terms of his tackling and interceptions.
Therefore, in that respect, so far, so good...
Negatives? Obviously the at times shocking defending! However, it's hard to be too critical, given the nature of the current situation, as you'd imagine three of the players in our defence tonight (Bitton, Ralston and Taylor) will not be part of the manager's plans going forward, or at least unlikely to be first choices, so some allowances have to be made, as mistakes will be inevitable.
Edouard, when he came on, still looks like he's lethargic and disinterested, and so his presence added next to nothing. In that respect, I was so glad to see him left on the bench at the start, and the team definitely benefited from that. Therefore, I'd expect the same starting lineup, perhaps with the inclusion of McCarthy, against Dundee on Sunday.
In conclusion then, there were continued small but significant improvements in the team tonight. I like how Ange wants us play - and when it clicks, and we improve defensively, I can see us punishing a few teams by scoring lots of goals, but that could be a while off yet!
Marco.
Incredible result tonight for St Johnstone: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/58060212
Imagine if they win the return leg?
Double cup winners last year and now pulling off results like this? Quite incredible for a provincial club like that on a shoestring budget. Callum Davidson deserves massive credit!

Grealish will benefit from Guardiola's coaching, and become a better player because of it.
Messi is a free agent, so if he turns up all would be well and good.

There are rumours that City Group have made an offer of a three year deal for Messi, 2 years in Manchester, and 1 year in New York.
Which is an interesting twist for the gossiping classes.
Where does Kane fit into this?
cant see kane but messi? not many sides could afford him; maybe none... but city, chelsea and psg the likeliest. although he will probably shit it and stay at barca

Barca's stance is that they can't sign him under their current financial constraints, as they haven't managed to slash their wage bill to permit it.
They still need to keep a squad together, so staying at Barca isn't an option for Messi.

Yeah, and Kent was really poor, again which is a worry
Yup, bit of surprise result there, chaps, although if you take the Livingston match out of the equation, and look at the games Rangers have played so far, including pre-season (arguably aside from the Madrid win), you've lacked a bit of cutting edge up front.
It's a worry if Morelos goes (who's unlikely to have been match fit today), as I simply don't see any of your current strikers replacing his goals. The difference with us, even though our current defence is as piss-poor as very piss-poor thing, we've got players all over the park (Edouard aside, lol) who can hurt teams and score goals.
Therefore, if we can sort out the defence, things could be on the up... That said, Dundee will still likely pump us tomorrow!:D
In other news, it looks like the 'special one' is away for £18m: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/odsonne-edouards-celtic-end-game-24708624?utm_source=daily_record_newsletter&utm_campaign=celtic_newsletter2&utm_medium=email
Now we just need to spend that money wisely on at least TWO replacements!

too many not really at it; got lacadasical and think they are better than they are. if you want to succedd in footy you have to be on the ball every minute of every game. again its an issue of not moving players on every year from team. they get to comfortable.
turnbull isnt fit for some reason.
Yeah, you could be right (on all counts), so from my point of view Turnbull should be dropped tomorrow for Rogic, and Soro should make way for the debut of McCarthy. In terms of both teams though, it's early in the season and so there's bound to be some rustiness, and of course we're in the middle of an almost total rebuild.
However, I do think that if Morelos doesn't stay and/or return to his previous form, Rangers will need to sign another striker, capable of scoring 25+ goals a season. For me, neither Itten or Roofe, although they'll get their fair share of goals, are the answer to that equation.
Even last season, how many goals did Itten and Roofe score in total, in comparison with Morelos? For me, neither are 25+ goal-a-season strikers. Tav scored more goals last season, did he not, than any of your strikers, Morelos aside, or have I got that wrong?
Who was your top scorer last season - was it Morelos, and if so, how many did he end up with?

think roofe was top scorer up front although tav beat him by 1 i think. roofe didnt play as many games either, but he is not an out and out striker. im in agreement we need to consider it but biggest position is an att c mid. someone who will both link with the front men and score a good few.. a fit turnbull for instance or a christie
Yeah, I'd agree with that. This guy's been linked with us for a while now (check out his goal on the enclosed video). I'd defo take him and Nisbet, as replacements for the Golden Boy: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/watch-celtic-transfer-target-kristijan-24712435

A right geek, really you surprise me, haha
Lol, watched the game with my dad on Monday and have to say I was very impressed with our overall tempo and speed of movement upfront, which at times was breathtaking! I did say that given what I'd seen from our recent forward play we'd end up punishing some team severely, and so it proved to be the case for poor Dundee...
We're certainly nowhere near the finished article yet, but as I said, the Japanese boy Kyogo is set to be a fan's favourite, and what better way to prove that than for him to score a hat-trick in his home debut.., This boy's a player and class act, and who I predict will go onto score plenty of goals this season. Ralston has also been a major surprise. Defensively suspect at times, but a joy to watch going forward (especially his close control with the ball), and the two goals he's scored so far have been top-notch.
Christie was also phenomenal, along with Abada, However, it's Christie whom we'll need to tie down on a new contract, as he seems to fit the system Ange wants to play perfectly, and so consistent. Also looking forward to seeing McCarthy play when he's given a chance, as I think he'll add something positive to the team. I also think it's no coincidence that our form's markedly improved since the arrival of Joe Hart.
In any case, I'm sure there'll be plenty more bumps on the road yet for Celtic, until the team settles, and when more new players arrive they all bed in, but if we can continue to click, I think there'll be some exciting times ahead watching this Celtic team play!
Marco.
Btw lads, good luck tonight against Malmo. I'll certainly be rooting for Rangers, as I always do in Europe, and indeed for all other Scottish teams. It's a pity your recent form's not been better going into this game, otherwise I'd be much more confident of you winning...
I think you'll have to get the first goal, to level the tie, and then take the game to Malmo, in which case I could see you going on to do enough to get through (although I also think that Malmo will score, so there'll be goals in this game), but if they score first and go 3-1 up, it could be along night for you guys.
Anyway, fingers crossed that you can do it!

Yeah, I've noticed that Chris, and it's definitely made a difference, plus I also think by the defenders in front of him gaining confidence from the fact that he's in goal rather than some of the balloons we've had there recently!
So yes, so far he's doing the business, and I don't think he's fully fit yet:)
Marco.
See, told ya. Lol.
Just not good enough across board.
Yeah, as I said earlier, given your recent form I didn't feel confident you'd get the win you needed. Although, it was going well in the first half, especially after scoring the first goal, which was vital.
However, bizarrely, the sending off for Malmo went against you, and you didn't seem to apply yourself the same in the second half with your numerical advantage, although credit to Malmo who played tremendously well with 10 men and were very hard to break down.
I'd agree though that you weren't good enough overall, especially defensively, and as I've been saying recently, in terms of lacking a cutting edge up front. Not sure why there seems to be a bit of malaise at the moment - surely it can't be because the fans are back?;)
No, I'm sure that you'll bounce back, but it's a worry that many of the players that were great for you last year (such as Goldson, Tav and Kent) are a bit cack at the moment. Even McGregor doesn't look his usual commanding self. The draw you've got in the Europa league, and the travelling there, won't be easy either.
Marco.
Obviously a never followed it as I was asleep but when I woke I knew we would be out.
It doesn't help when your at start of season and your playing good side who are halfway through their season and playing well, but the side are just on at it, and even when they are it's only in small bursts.
Sitting on laurels comes to mind for too many.
Crowd wise, no I don't think it's an issue. They are pros and have played in front of fans all their days.
No idea who is next up tnh
I think it's a tie in either Armenia or Kazakhstan, either of which will be a nightmare travelling back from, to play league games the following weekend. Going to be tiring.
I agree that the qualifying rounds are always difficult and potentially treacherous, playing teams who are well into their season. However, at least you went into this one with a full strength side/proper defence. We've being going into them for the last FOUR seasons with nothing like that, and a makeshift defence - and this year with a bunch of kids!
Anyway, let's hope that both of us can do something in the Europa league, if Celtic qualify (I think you automatically drop into the group stages now, don't you?), and keep up the coefficient:)
You've got a big game now on Friday in the cup against Dunfermline, especially as you were bad last year in the cup competitions. Big pressure on Gerrard to win that one, which I'm sure Rangers will, but it'll also need to be backed up by a good performance to appease some of the so-called fans, wondering what on earth's going on, especially the ones I was watching leaving the ground last night with 10 mins still left to go!

Not sure what to say about last night. At half time, I thought we would win the game after the sending off. Once again some very poor defending cost us, but saying that, Malmo had a game plan playing 2 up front even with 10 men and it worked. I think the coaching staff need to have very close look at their tactics and the players , as its clearly not working. McGregor looks shaky for some reason, Tav can’t pass the ball, Helander who played well was dropped, Arfield was poor, as was Kent again, we don’t seem to have a plan B. if they lose on Friday, the bears will not be happy.

think manager needs to have a look at his selections and tactics. too many players get too many chances just because the can make a difference on their game. arfield isnt worth a shirt, and agree big phil should have played, as should young paterson. Barisic is another.
Kazakhstan's Kairat Almaty or Alashkert of Armenia await in the Europa League play-off round - they meet on Thursday with the tie poised at 0-0 - but losing to one of those sides would still leave the Ibrox club in the group stage of the new Europa Conference League.

Interesting points, many of which I concur with. Just as a thought though about a possible reason for the current malaise, and touching again on the playing in front of fans thing....
I'm wondering if it's not the case of actually *playing* in front of fans again that's the issue for Rangers, but rather playing in front of them as defending champions, for the first time in years, and as a result, the weight of expectation on the shoulders of many of the players who've never been in that position before, and them struggling to handle it (so in that respect the fans being there now in large numbers is significant)?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aside from McGregor and Davis, I don't think any of the other Rangers players, last season aside, have ever won a league title, or indeed, as the case is now, defended one? Whereas Celtic, especially now with the addition of Hart, have numerous players in the team who are well used to winning and defending titles, and so can ably handle the pressure.
Difficult to say for sure right now if that's true, as it's very early in the season, but I think it's having a bearing on current performances, and the more games Rangers lose/draw and/or play badly in, the pressure on the players will further intensify, and indeed feel the wrath of the fans, especially at home in front of 55,000. Just my thoughts, but we'll see whether they come to fruition or not.
Whilst I agree with the points Grant and you have made about some of the players, I think one of the main things that's missing in the current Rangers team, is a patent *lack of winners*... Seasoned pros are fine, and Rangers have plenty of those, but seasoned pros USED to WINNING league titles (wherever) is a quite a different matter - and one which I think needs addressing if things are to improve, and Rangers having any hopes of replicating Celtic, in terms of going on a run of winning multiple SPL titles.

You could be right Marco, the 2 you mentioned are probably the only ones who had won anything, Arfield maybe with Burnley but certainly none of the others. The defense looked nervous for some reason , all very strange. As for playing in front of fans they should be used to that, but the downside of playing at Ibrox is that the place can go very quiet if things are not going well, like the second half last night. Something that foreign fans do much better than us, the Malmo fans were behind their team for the full 90 minutes last week. The best fans in the UK imo are the Crystal Palace fans they create a great atmosphere for the 90 minutes.
Interesting one, this with Strachan coming back to perform what could be a very useful role: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/gordon-strachan-set-sensational-celtic-24730751
I like the idea and can see it working. Strachan certainly has the calibre and experience to make a difference that could prove invaluable.
There are also rumours of Edouard staying to run out his contract... Don't know how I feel about that, if it happens. Yes, on his game, he's a top-notch striker, but ONLY on his game, which we haven't seen for over a year!
And yes, he could form a formidable partnership with Kyogo - I could just imagine the chances he would create for Edouard, so there's a potentially lethal combo there, but also plenty of ifs and buts!:)
Marco.
its been on cards i think.. a bit odd he is staying with Dundee and doing 2 jobs; conflict of interest me thinks??
Yeah, that is a bit of a strange one... Maybe he's thinking about getting into management again at some point, and so 'keeping his hand in', as it were?
What did you think of the point I made to Robin about Rangers possibly feeling the pressure as title defenders for the first time in years, and not having enough players in the team used to that pressure, and/or winning titles, exacerbated by the fact the fans are back now in numbers, especially at Ibrox?
For me, aside from the valid points you made, that's a feasible reason for their current poor form.
Marco.

i think its always going to be a factor, becoming defenders as it were.. crowds have always had dual effects at grounds like ibrox. There have apparently been a good few covid cases that were kept in house and thus the fitness is also an issue. Then there are a number of players with an eye on a move; Kent, Barisic, Goldson, Kamara, Hagi and possibly Morelos(although i think he is least of it). These players are not giving their all. Magreggor isnnt fit and was possibly a covid case, i dont know. New boys Lundstrum and Sakala havent settled yet.(or have and are shoite;)) The youth need to be used more; far too much of this"they are to young shit" they are either good enough or not. Arfield won cock all with Burnley.
They went up to the Premier League for the second time by being 2nd in the Championship, which is an achievement in itself.

so not much.. he has been off for a while now. surprised he is playing
Do you think Rangers strengthened their squad enough in the summer, and also just as importantly, do you think the players they brought in are good enough? I know it's still early days, but what's your gut feeling?
In terms of the former, and you've made the same point yourself, I think they badly need someone like Christie, as an effective link between the midfield and frontline, who crucially can break down defences and create chances/offer more cutting edge.
For me, someone like that would've made much more sense than John Lundstram!
Marco.
what they brought in were slightly more useful fringe players i felt. rangers have yet to buy anyone. that is not going to get u into cl. i said it before and i stick with it. 3 good 1st team players should have come in. now its likely 1 or 2 will go out.
now i know about finances etc but if they want the big money of cl then they had to invest. next season is only 50/50 at best as either side could win it. at moment celtic are the proactive ones and for me, favourites
Yeah, you've pretty much said what I was thinking. aside from the Celtic favourites thing, which I'm not touching with a bargepole, lol!:nono::D
I agree though that Rangers lack quality in key positions, not just in the first team, but in depth (despite what some media pundits think to the contrary, going on about how wonderful a squad they've got, which I don't really see), and it's a situation that should've been addressed in the summer.
You certainly can't expect to do anything in the CL without filling your first team, especially, with as much quality as possible - and had they done so (perhaps there's still time while the window's open?) they might've beat Malmo last night!
Marco.

You certainly can't expect to do anything in the CL without filling your first team, especially, with as much quality as possible - and had they done so (perhaps there's still time while the window's open?) they might've beat Malmo last night!
Marco.
its a decent squad but it has holes in it.. these are not new holes. the manager and his team have done well by getting two good european runs and winning league and not losing.
but they got lucky that the holes didnt affect them too much, neither did his lack of other formations or his blind picking of some players.
but it had to come home to bite him eventually. the attitude that they could scrape into the cl then buy a couple of players has merit; but only if you scrape in

It will an interesting couple of weeks until the Transfer window closes. The squad is not that bad, we are short in a couple of areas, the midfield does not have the right balance or quality. The best player is Davis, we don’t have anyone to link the play to the front players, Davis can do that but he is playing a much deeper role. Stephen Kelly is a good young player and should be given a chance. The other issue is that some players appear to be undropable, even when playing for several weeks. If the lose on Friday night the pressure will increase.
Yup a cd, a acm and a striker. That's what's needed.
I'll comment more later, as I'm just having my tea, but I agree - and it's *precisely* the type of players that should've been bought BEFORE the season started, particularly the CL qualifiers!
I've got a cheek to talk though, as our situation, in that respect, was far more of a shambles, that's for sure:lol::mental:
However, the upshot (so far at least) seems to be that the players we've managed to sign are going to be successful, as there hasn't been a dud yet, which is a big improvement on last year's efforts!!
Oh, and talking of central defenders, what does Helander have to do to get an extended run in the Rangers team? He's your best defender by a mile!
Marco.

I agree that Helander should be in the team, I would say that with Katic they are our best two, I’ve never been a Goldson fan, but Gerrard is a big for some reason.
I do agree, and I also think Patterson should be given a chance, as I think he'd shine. Like you say, Gerrard's got too many favourites, who short of them breaking a leg are guaranteed a starting spot!
In other news, some trusted sources have indicated that this double swoop is a done deal: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/josip-juranovic-thomas-henry-eyed-24741373
I'd settle for that:)
Marco.
we were after henry at one point but he was too much unless we sold a striker like alf. As i said yesterday even tho bookies still have gers as favs, you can take it from me Celtic will win league

I’m a bit more half glass full than Grant, not written the league off yet.

not written it off but i feel we are going to be predictable this year.

Two games in and you're saying that, daftee? Lol, NO WAY am I entertaining that pish:D
You'll soon change your tune when you pump us in the first old firm game:ner:;)
Marco.
What a freakin nightmare I've had trying to get to watch the Celtic game tonight!
The first round of the tie was shown on either BBC Scotland or Premier Sports (can't remember which), and that was fine, but for some inexplicable reason, one is now showing the Hibs game, and the other St Johnstone...:mental:
Why not adopt a policy of continuity, and if you show one one leg of a tie, then show the other??
Anyway, I've had to pay an extra £9.99 on Pay-Per-View, on Celtic TV, (on top of my existing membership) to buy a pass, in order to be able to watch the game - what a swizz... Let's hope it's worth it!!:D
Marco.
reckon they see it as over so other games will have more appeal maybe.
Mmm, I get your thinking, but just think of the tens of thousands of Celtic fans, who can't get a ticket for the game itself, who would've wanted to see this match - WAY more than the Hibs and St Johnstone fans put together!!
It's bollox, as indeed is being asked to fork out another tenner... Anyway, it is what it is:)

may be of course celtic tv want too much or are not sharing, and at a tenner a pop you can see why;)

Well done to Celtic and Aberdeen
Yeah, Hibs ultimately were outclassed, and Aberdeen have done well.
However, St Johnstone, who have no 'right' to be competing at this level in the first place, deserve special praise for two very plucky performances against, historically, one of the great names in Europe, especially for holding them to a draw at their ground in the first leg - a truly amazing performance from them overall!
Watch out for them again in the cups;)

Watched some of the St Johnstone game, held their own in the first half but struggled a bit in the second half
Any congrats, Granty, for Celtic getting through last night?:)
Marco.
ah yes, as i predicted, an easy win again and another clean sheet too.. yup well done and fits with my prediction... next round will be tougher but still winnable
i see st johnstone failed to make it alas. no shame as gala are a top side

Cheers, mate. Yup, MUCH tougher, but yes winnable, if we carry on in our current form, and continue improving as we have been:)
That's what's obvious about this Celtic team, under Ange. You can see improvements in every game (we're now not conceding silly goals), and the players adapting to the (very exciting and attacking/high-tempo) style of play he wants.
We're far from the finished article yet, but I'm confident that the finished article, when it happens, will be something quite special and enthralling to watch!
Marco.
Surprised you haven't been discussing your 5-0 trouncing of Dunfermline, chaps?:)

Good to win last night with a much changed team, hopefully that will be season starter that we need.
not before time some of the players not doing it were dropped.. what chance they will be mostly back for next match tho;) a good opening half hr then they kinda eased off tho.

Soz, don't get that bit - expected to pay *what*?:)
The rest of the cack I wouldn't pay any attention to whatsoever!
Marco.
Lol, Rangers are charging the press for access now.. with attitude that they are making money and getting all their stuff for free i guess. They, the press, dont like the idea in case it catches on.. Gers have a point of course; papers and web pages are often eith hidden behind pay walls or are riddled with ads.
Irrellevant of that, agree or disagree, on the rangers stories sections this is what they think will change folks minds; i dont think so.
Mostly the Sun and the Daily Retard.. oops sorry Record:lol:

Ah, I didn't know about that, as I pay little attention to such stuff (non-football related trivia), so always best to give some background...
I don't disagree with any of your points, but it's interesting hearing the 'Daily Retard' thing from another perspective, as it's clear you feel that the Daily Record are anti-Rangers, because us Celtic fans used to refer to it as the 'Daily Rangers', because we thought it was biased against Celtic!
Just shows you eh, how your own bias can skew the perspective?;)
As for Hugh Keevins, I regularly take the piss out of him on the Superscoreboard phone-ins!:D
Marco.

think its more the intellect needed to believe anything they print as fact and not to sell print and clicks
Yeah, I know what you mean and agree. Just saying how it's easy to interpret bias in different ways, depending on where your loyalties lie!:D
Keevins is defo a Celtic fan though, as he's admitted it on air often enough.
Marco.
Nah, not Radio Clyde Superscoreboard, with 'dyed-in-Rangers blue' Andy Halliday, Gordon Dalziel, and Alex Rae, also as resident pundits!:D
...balanced out by Keevins, Gary Caldwell and Mark Wilson;)
Marco.
not so much pundits but journo's; although thats a loose description:D
The ex-footballers aren't journos, as they don't write for anyone, just come on the show to offer their opinions. Keevins though, is a journo, as is David Hannah, who's also on the show:)
Marco.
yeah thats what i mean, the ones you mentioned were pundits and say what the are often paid to say; or at least its written up in their name. all for a few quid in the hip.
Yep, gotcha... I quite like it though, just a bit of fun, especially the phone-ins from all the 'Glesga numpties' who can hardly string a coherent sentence together, and have a lingo all of their own - it creases Del right up!
Marco.
just heard the gret gerd muller has died at 75.. fabulous goal scorer little muller..
