Are you sure? From my memory, it was a Monday night, which seems to the case stated here: http://www.mark-1.co.uk/Professionals/profprod.htm
Noting:
"Filming Block 1 - Commenced Monday 13th June 1977, completed Friday 13th January 1978".
It defo was originally shown on a Monday night, but it could've been moved later to a Sunday... I agree though; it was one of the best TV series EVER!:)
Marco.
I think that's when it was filmed not broadcast.
here's the original air dates http://epguides.com/Professionals/
First series was on a friday night
Second series on a Saturday night
Third series Saturdays
Fourth series Sunday nights
Fifth series Sunday nights.
No worries. I seem to remember the Friday night ones more than Sundays.
Marco.
Loved The Professionals, although for me the stars of it now when I catch it on ITV4 occasionally is the cars - especially the Escort RS2000 - have you seen how much they go for now!
I know, my cousin used to have one. His wife drove it mostly, like a lunatic.
A collegue at work used to rally in one of those (though it might have been a Mexico).

I think the Professionals was Sunday night. I remember my younger brothers always pleading to be allowed to stay up for it.
Hart To Hart and That's Life were on a bit earlier in the evening, along with Battlestar Galactica.Of course Hart to Hart and Battlestar Galactica, watched them too! The Life and Times of David Lloyd George, By The Sword Divided and Shogun were other things I remember watching. And A Woman of Substance. I imagine that last one was my mum's choice!
North and South (The US civil war series that is) was a bit later, really liked that.

Excellent series - I have the set on DVD :)
That reminds me of Monkey - I had completely forgotten about that show, anyone else remember it? (“Haaaaah Pigsy” I seem to recall?)
monkey was good. corny but good
Brilliant - I loved monkey (very funny and not always intentional :))

it was great that they used garden implements as weapons. We had all that stuff in the shed, made the re-enactments more realistic. Until one of my brothers nearly lost an eye.

There’s a new advert for Co-op funerals where a lady explains her love of music and how she wants her funeral to reflect this. It ends with her adjusting a ‘volume knob’ to make her music louder.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who spotted that the knob she twists is actually the record level control on a Technics cassette deck…

She might be monitoring the recording level with a 3 head deck if she's really into music.
Failing that, RADA really need to up the training on realistic operation of hifi if they want to produce convincing actors.
I'm sure as far as the general public are concerned a knobs a knob, like Freddie Mercury using the pitch control on a 401 to control the volume ;)

Ah so it's all in her head then. Cue the man in the white coat approaching her cautiously with needle in hand. "Come along Miss Simpkins, it's time to go back to your room now, you've had enough fun for one day..."
You make a good point.
However the other fly in the ointment is that she doesn’t actually appear to have an amplifier at all!
she's clearly a proponent of the 'less is more approach.' Getting rid of the amplifier means shorter signal paths and less components in the path.

These are what I use to fix heavy stuff to plasterboard, including giant telly wall brackets. I'd trust them to keep my big OLED attached, but no way would I site my kit under it :nono:
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81WKzs15kPL._AC_SX569_.jpg
yeah i use them too.. they are solid if plasterboard is in good nick. occasionally have to shorten the driver on front if brick is too close tho.. usually can hold 100kg per 2 fixers, but wall needs to be good too
All of the walls in my house are made of brick. Plasterboard is a very poor substitute.
Pigmy Pony

I would say that most internal walls of houses built in the last 40 years or so are 'stud' walls. Cheap and easy I guess. Though not ideal acoustically. But even solid brick (or block) walls are boarded over using dri wall adhesive rather than just wet plaster these days.

Looks like a Russ Andrews Silencer, maybe he's teamed up with IKEA to make their new turntables sound better. Just the sort of thing I'd be tempted to throw in my basket while I'm waiting 30 mins for a till, along with a few cheap glass tealight holders.
Presumably it would be one of the items they conveniently "forgot" to put a label on the shelf for in the hope you wouldn't check the price until you'd paid and the thought of waiting another 30 minutes for a refund would make you contemplate suicide (or murder).
Mind you prices he charges I'd wait all day to get my money back. Especially if I'd taken it home and tried it.
Actually looking at her face I think she's just going through that experience now.

I was watching a programme the other day on the Nuremberg war trials. I was intrigued by the arrangement that the prosecutor setup for simultaneous translation through headphones. Initially, I thought the headphones looked a lot like Grado designs, until I realised that the company was not formed until the 1950s. To cut a long story short, the headphones were manufactured by IBM. I was not aware that they made headphones, but of course, given that they were involved in office management systems they probably had various transcription products. My guess now is that Grado borrowed from the IBM design. Does anyone have experience of IBM headphones or any knowledge of whether Grado borrowed from IBM?
In the meantime, here is an interesting link on the subject.

Interesting system:

I heard a pair of Audiostatic ESLs at an Audio fair in London back in the '90s and was impressed. The room was empty apart from the demonstrator and me, so I could listen to a wide range of music and have a good discussion with the demonstrator. As a long-term user of Quad ESLs (the so-called 57s) I could have happily replaced the Quads (which I love) with the Audiostatics.

Those Wharfedale speakers are not as large as they appear. Each one in the series: Dovedale; Glendale,
and Kingsdale used a 5" midrange drive unit. The Dovedale used a 10" bass driver, the Glendale a 12" driver and the Kingsdale a 15" driver.
Judging from the size of the woofer compared with the 5" mid, I would suggest they are Dovedales.

Thanks Barry I used to have an interest in these speakers as I owned a pair of Teesdale SP2s with the isodynamic tweeters but always wanted a bigger pair. As far as I could tell they made a Dovedale SP2 (which has a smaller woofer but 2 of them so a larger speaker) but they didn't upgrade the Airedale SP to an SP2 when they added the ribbon style tweeters to the range. (So the link I gave above is technically incorrect as he describes them as a Airedale SP2, which didn't exist, they are in fact just the SP - if anyone has ever found an Airedale SP2 please let me know!)

Yeah, a lot of the storylines have been messed about with, probably to make it all more appealing visually and to fit into the one hour slots too.
If you read the books you would see many glaring differences with the characters too - like Bosch not having a daughter, his courtroom nemesis Honey Chandler being murdered quite early on, and partner Jerry Edgar being a bit of a lazy sod with no real commitment to the work. Still all entertaining enough though.

You must have heard of 'Porridge' even if you've never seen it. It's been around fifty years.

Oh, I have heard of "Porridge' with Ronnie Barker, but I didn't watch it at the time; so the joke is lost on me.

You should watch it, it is very funny with outstanding comedic performances. The follow up series 'Going Straight' not so much although it's still like Shakespeare compared to modern programming.

Started watching this last week, and now well into it. Not a fan of his speaker placement though. One website mentions his T/T being an LP12. Not even close, it's some Japanese semi-automatic jobbie.
So is "Mr Mercedes'" a TV series - what's it all about?

The villain of the show is given that moniker by the media and police because of something he did at the beginning in a Mercedes Benz car. Two years on, the crime still hasn't been solved, and becomes a battle of wits between the psychpathic "Mr Mercedes" and the now-retired detective.
Frequently brutal and increasingly weird, and only available on Netflix I think.

The book it's based on was by Stephen King and there's three in the series, the first two outstanding page turners while the third was a bit weak.
Gleeson is always worth a watch IMHO and the series is actually quite faithful to the story.
Nothing horror or supernatural at all in it, either - just a crime drama that relies heavily on excellent dialogue and characterisation.
DI Ruth Calder’s quite minimalist system in ‘Shetland’ with more strange speaker placement.

Got blown up anyway.
Planet Hollywood in London (don’t look for it, it’s not there anymore) had a display including one of Jason’s jackets. It was tiny, looked like a kid’s size. Have to smile when he locks horns with someone like the Rock.

A bit confusing this. In "The Mechanic", Statham's stereo gets blown up at the end because it was rigged to explode if this bloke tries to use the turntable (which he does).
So it looks like another stereo meets a sticky end in "Mechanic: Resurrection"... what's Statham got against audio systems?

What have the scriptwriters got against them you mean? I don't think he writes the films he's in. They might be better if he did. I didn't make it to the end of 'Mechanic Resurrection'.

Don't recognise the receiver but its not Goodmans. The turntable is a Garrard AP76.
As an aside, the television is a Murphy and my parents had one - my mum wanted it because it was white. It was also very trendy in its day and featured in a lot of 1960s television programmes. It was black and white and long after everyone had changed to colour, they still had it as my dad simply took it to work and fixed it when anything went wrong, much to my mother's annoyance.
When it finally died, my mother wanted another white television and the only company that offered one in 1978 was Bang & Olufsen, so she went out and spent £400 on a Beovision 3502. Dad was furious!

Seems to have same buttons on top as the channel change buttons on many tellies of the era.
'It was the Seventies. Buckaroo.'
I must admit I do have a penchant for white hifi/TV's so I'm with your mum on that Adam. At one point my Garrad had a white plinth, courtesy of some rattle cans from Halfords c. 1988.
We had a white spherical TV in the early 70's, from a bit of googling probably either a Keracolor Sphere or a JVC Videosphere - i have a photo of me in the living room with it somewhere.
I can still hear and feel those TV buttons from back then. I remember on a later "normal" TV the whole button panel folded out to reveal the tuning wheels, I think?

I remember we had one where you pushed a panel and a draw came out with the tuning dials. My father gradually edged up the screen size as they became cheaper - they were all rented of course.
I had a white telly but it was only a black and white portable. I ran the sound out of the headphone socket into some big 4-ways. Coat hanger for aerial but lived on a hilltop back then so could get still get Granada, Central and S4C.
My first TV was an old dual standard (VHF 405 line / UHF 625 line) black and white set that used to belong to my parents before they bought a massive Decca colour set (think it was a 21" screen). It was the kind of set which had folding doors to close when you weren't watching it.
Anyway, those old dual standard TVs involved a lot of switching of circuits and hence a lot of contacts involved. With age problems arose, and being all valve they occurred as the set warmed up. I got fed up with having to switch the set on about 5 - 10 minutes before I wanted to watch a programme.
It was replaced with a colour TV, which like yours had a headphone socket (mono only) which I did use. Happy days.
they were all rented of course.
I remember my dad went to Rentavision in 1978 to upgrade to our first colour TV - my granddad & grandmother were coming to stay, and dad didn't want them to think we were poor! My mate worked for Granada rentals late 80's, we had some fun piling about 20 of us in the back of his Transit.
I don't suppose anyone rents these days - I did up until around 2000, but I guess prices dropped as the specs got better and it wasn't worth it. I do remember being very excited when I rented my first NICAM TV/VHS player - proper stereo sound from a telly! It was a Grundig, pretty good if I recall. Before that, there used to be some programs that where "simulcast" if you remember that? Tune in to the sound on the tuner through the hi-fi and watch the pictures on the screen! My how things have moved on!

1985's Live Aid came just before programmes started to be aired in Nicam stereo, but it was simultaneously broadcast on BBC TV and Radio 1... so I recorded some of it on my VHS recorder and also on my JVC DD5 cassette recorder. Oh what fun I had trying to sync them afterwards  I'd get them something like, but within a few minutes they were so out of sync it was unwatchable... the things we had to do to get what we now take for granted.
I rented until 1999 or 2000. This telly I've got now is only the third one I've ever owned.
I knew this bloke he had a little colour portable. He'd pawn it then buy it back the next week, have it for a week then pawn it again.
Don't know how much he was losing each time he did that but sure it would have been cheaper to rent one or even get one of those coin operated ones.
Forgot I have an early 1990s Trinitron monitor too although not technically a telly as no receiver. I used it for a while when I was between tellies. Still works fine at 34 years old.
Compact and bijou from Morse (not his). Seems all you need is under the stairs.

It would have saved a lot of hassle.

But he was running around Oxford solving middle class crime committed by middle class people. He didn't have to deal with slags.
I bet if they transferred him to the flying squad he would pick up the lingo double quick.
And he'd get a better motor, too.

Nah - my father used to drive a V8 Daimler, dark blue with wire-wheels. It had the same appearence as the Mk.II Jaguar Morse drove. It had good performance and it certainly turned heads.

The Sweeney started out with Consuls, but later it was the similar looking but higher spec Granadas with bigger more powerful engines (2.5 V6 and 2.8i. I always thought those cars were pretty badass, but I could only stretch to a 1.6L Mk.5 Cortina.

When I was a kid, bloke across the road had a Morse-shape Jag. It was easily the nicest car on the street. And it looked huge, though when you're eight years old everything looks big, even Wagon Wheels.
Around that time my dad got a Jag - don't know what model, but it must have been pretty old, had 'running boards'. And I do remember him saying one time that he got 105mph out of it.
There weren't many safety consideration back then - one time when my dad was going round a corner, the passenger door flew open and spilled my younger brother onto the road (no seat belts back then). He just stopped, scooped up my brother and we continued our journey with my brother bawling his head off.

It's a Consul chasing a Mk2 Jag in the series 1 and 2 titles (the titles change for series 3).
Sweeny always in Fords, villains always in Jags. Which they'd end up crashing on waste ground or into some corrugated metal fencing due to a completely unforced error.
I think London was pretty much built of corrugated metal in those days. Whoever supplied it must have made millions.

Bit of a comedown from their Jags but then they were probably not doing so well after all the results John Thaw got.
I read somewhere that Jags were used as their bodies were 'tinny' and provided a safe crumple zone for TV stunt crashes.

Or they'd used up the supply of Jags on their local 'manor' by crashing them all onto waste ground for no real reason.
Mk2 Jags got hit up the arse a lot being one of the first cars to be equipped with disc brakes.

Have they got the L/R orientation of the speakers correct? There's a risk the next generation will grow up with a total lack of knowledge of transducer setup if they watch trash like that. Having said that, they may have been experimenting to see if they could get a wider soundstage.
Is the listening position/seat the tyre? If so then yes; the mid and tweeters are too far apart.
pretty sure any cartoon character is capable of setting up his speakers they way he likes them.
