    Default Skeletons in the cupboard

Since I mentioned that I had been thinking about starting this thread, it falls to me to actually kick it off.

What I have in mind is those records in your collection which have low or zero ‘street creditability’; the sort of thing that you bought to remind you of a time and place in your life and/or that you simply enjoy listening to, although you may be in a minority of one.

I’ll start things off, in no particular order (since they were pulled from different parts of my collection) we have:

Canned Heat, ‘Boogie with Canned Heat’
    Marc Brierley, ‘Hello’,
    Kraftwerk, ‘Autobahn’,
    It’s A Beautiful Day, ‘It’s A Beautiful Day’,
The Incredible String Band, ‘5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion’ and ‘Changing Horses’,
Ron Geesin, ‘A Raise of Eyebrows’,
    Lalo Schifrin, ‘Marquis de Sade’,
The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, ‘Peanut Butter Conspiracy’,
Planxty, ‘The Well Below the Valley',
    Phil Collins, ‘Face Value’,
The Hollies, ‘Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress’,
    Manfred Mann, ‘For Sale’,
Robert Plant, ‘The Principle of Moments’,
    Andy Roberts, ‘Home Grown’,
Leon Russell, ‘Leon Russell and The Shelter People’,
    Pete Skellern, ‘Astaire’,

    And finally:

Sainkho, ‘Out of Tuva', an odd mixture of Tuvan ‘throat singing’ and Mongolian electro-pop.

So there you go – any followers? Come on, don't be shy, let’s hear what’s “in your closet”.

    Regards

    Blimey!
This is going to require some brutal honesty!
    I'd better go & have a look.................

This is closely related to the thread I was thinking about starting:

Yes agree with Alex I think this would mean a lot of my collection
I have a good look at the weekend
    but here are a few
Jasun Tipton Seduction Jasun is one of the coolest people I know
Buckethead Colma This is very atmospheric usually his music is a lot more outside
Kyojie Yamatoo Electric Cinema Guitarist from Bow Wow great hard rock LP if you can track it down Reminds me of my days going to SHades to buy the latest LP On a Sat morning they would always be playing the newest import and bought many a good album when something caught my ear
Diamond Head The White Album Actually a lot of underground creadability due to the Metallica connection but so much part of my youth just felt should be included
I do not have a lot of mainstream music in my collection
Loves anything from Pain of Salvation to Jeff Buckley to Django to Sarasate to Surinder Sandhu to Shawn Lane to Nick Drake to Rush to Beth Hart to Kate Bush to Rodrigo Y Gabriela to The Hellecasters to Dark Sanctury to Ben Harper to Karicus to Dream Theater to Zero Hour to Al DiMeola to Larry Carlton to Derek Trucks to Govt Mule to?

I seem to gravitate towards stuff with 0 credibility. The thing is, I really like stuff others tend to dismiss as rubbish!

I love cheesy pop; done right there's nothing that can lift the spirits and warm the heart more than a bit of cheese.

BoyzIIMen - II / Cooleyhighharmony (I love BoyzIIMen's harmonies and production).
Janet Jackson - Velvet Rope (Together Again is a brilliant pop song).
Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Greatest Hits (Summertime is a classic).
Lene Marlin - Playing My Game (I love Sitting Down Here)
Rick Astley - Whenever You Need Somebody (What more can I say).

I also like and seek out outsider music of a certain kind... stuff teetering of the edge of absurdity, where you're not sure if the artist is being intentionally 'idiot-savant' or not...

Manor Boys - Chelmsford's Most Wanted

Gorse - Let The Gorse Be with You

Project Brothers - We're Number One

Natalie Imbruglia - Left Of The Middle
Macy Gray - On How Life Is

    I don't care...

I will confess to having a couple of James Last albums (from his 80's "Mantovani" period) and, indeed, a Mantovani LP or two stashed away somewhere.

I also have a few Perry Como discs - When You Come To The End Of The Day is lovely.. Oh, and plenty of Jean Michel Jarre too

Aqua - Aquarium, for just one track really

Some Sting CD's and an LP or two

I daren't look any further. I've 'fessed up enough...
I can't go on and I can't go back, I don't feel so matter of fact,
I tried and tried to make good sense, What's the good to try it all again?

Oh dear, this will be more painful than I thought - I already had pretty low street cred, now it will be Zero!

    Abba - Gold/More Gold
All Saints - all their albums (yes, even the extra-crap comeback one...)
Anastacia - Freak of Nature/Not That Kind
Ashley Simpson - all 3 albums...
Atomic Kitten/Ladies Night - Feels so Good (Actually I think technically these are my wife's but I probably bought them...)
    Avril Lavigne - Let Go
    The Bangles - Greatest Hits
Bee Gees - Tales from the Brothers Gibb (4 CD Box Set)... (The non-falseto stuff is very good, and great songwriting...)
Belinda Carlisle - all her 80s/early 90s albums
Beverley Craven - all her albums and quite a few singles - one of my real guilty pleasures...
Beyoncé - Dangerously in Love/I am Sasha Fierce
    Bon Jovi - Cross Road
Britney Spears - all her albums... and the DVD greatest hits... (can't think why... !)
    The Carpenters - Singles 1969-1973
Cascada - Everytime We Touch/Perfect Day
Christina Aguelera - Stripped/Back to Basics
The Corrs (first 3 albums, plus the unplugged one)
Craig David - Born To Do It

Well that's the 'A's the 'B's and the 'C's - do I have to go on?

As you can see, I am a serial abuser of the privilege - I probably don't have the right to own anything better than my original 1985 Sharp Midi system...

Here here! The worms are turning!

(Lena Marlin is FAB - no way is she cheesy, or have zero cred...!)
