Yes, I have accounts with other banks (at one time I had five, but now they are consolidated into three), but they are all located in town. It's the closure of the village branch that is annoying, and to a large extent, inconvenient.

Natwest just closed here as well. There used to be Natwest, Barclays, HSBC, LLoyds and TSB. When LLoyds and TSB merged the LLoyds closed and became a trendy café bar. Which then closed.

Then HSBC went, then Barclays and now Natwest, Only LLoyds left, since when they separated Lloyds took on the old TSB branch. which fortunately is my bank. When that closes I'll have to go 2 towns over to pay a cheque in.

All the former bank buildings are empty. Will probably become student accommodation since that seems to be happening to every empty building round here. Presumably the poxy students don't need banks because they bank on their 'phones or something. Who knows?

Mind you, those of us who've been using Internet banking for years (I would add with ZERO security issues) would be hypocrites if we complained now about bank branches closing, as a result of us simply not having used them often enough - so we've essentially engineered their downfall!

We're fortunate again living in Wrexham, which is, by some margin, the biggest town (should be a city) in North Wales, and so acts as a 'central hub' for everyone living in the area to flock to, in order to do proper shopping and/or carry out their financial affairs. In that respect, there are currently no shortage of banks. There is:

Both a TSB and Lloyds bank
HSBC
Barclays
Nat West
Halifax
Santander
RBS

and also a couple of building societies. How long that'll be the case of course remains to be seen!

Loads of companies still pay their suppliers with cheques. I've actually encountered a couple of companies who do not even have a computer in the office, they don't even have e-mail. They have a fax machine but think it is 'new fangled' and don't use it much.

Never used internet banking so I'm blameless on that score

BTW Wrexham would need to knock up a cathedral in order to be classed as a 'City'. In this day and age I suspect that is unlikely to happen.

Really? That's a shock to me. I can only imagine that their trading environment must be rather limited. If it works for them, then fair enough, but for how much longer? In that respect they really DO need to move with the times, as being a 'dinosaur' in business, and refusing to embrace change, is a recipe for disaster!
