My father too was a toolmaker (at Cowley) with British Leyland.

However.. No Vanden Plas down our road (my first 'proper' girlfriend did though, the 1300 !!...oooohh that leather)

No he had a white Moggy Minor for ages which I learnt to drive in.
Followed by that Austin 1300 GT. Bloody hell, what a dreadful car that was.

You know...it was only when I went out to live in India that I remembered how noisy those cars of the 60's and 70's were.. whining differentials, and noisy exhausts. Bliss.

I had a 1300GT. It looked lovely when I bought it-white with black plastic leather roof covering. Within a year it had the dreaded car cancer and failed the MOT 7 times due to major corrosion including 'inner wing trumpets'. Then the gearbox went. I sold it to an innocent who didnt notice the blue smoke from the exhaust because the piston rings had gone too.
    I still feel guilty....
