I could improve the CD player. I know that as I have better ones but they don't work anymore. I've had my eye out for something for a while but not in any serious way. With serious CD players the way I see it is as a buyers market but the sellers have yet to realise that. So biding my time.

Get a second hand PD-S505 Precision. Makes a fine stand alone unit and transport for remarkably sensible money. I use one and it's as satisfying as my £1200 Meridian. And they just seem to keep on going too.
My mate has one in a pretty serious system and is well pleased with it. Bev seems happy with hers as well.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
I do fancy a Pioneer but it has to be the PD91. And it will be mine. Oh yes! It will be mine.

LOL - party on, John. If you get the tele let us have a look at it.
Should point out I am being a bit fussy about the bass, that is just me. Rare I hear a speaker at any price that does bass properly - or what I consider proper, anyway. Hence the plan to build my own. (I'll get a local gadgee to build the cabs, since I am cack-handed at that sort of thing. There is a cabinet maker near me who is also heavily into his music so he would be ideal). In the meantime I'd say I'm 95% happy with these JM labs.

I'm James.
Are the JM Labs giving you a bit more resolution and heft to the sound in your room now Martin?
You could do with Firebottles monoblocks to run them?![]()
Yes they are. Sounds very different from when you were over. Much more hi-fi. No trace of 'vintage' sound now, but I can still jack up the levels and it stays clean, which is what I like about the Akais and I didn't want to lose that just to gain a bit more fidelity. I was worried they might struggle a bit with the volume of the space but they really don't.
Have to say I think my XTZ amp is a very good match for them, but I will be having another go with the Firebottle AIR amp when Alan is back up this way.

The PD-91 is one player I would have again.
They have their 'quirks' though and the lasers are getting more and more scarce, and very expensive.
The cd drawer can be temperamental too. The ability of reading CDR's is not a problem as their is a tweak inside that can be done to able that.
But... the rest is bomb proof and the player would be your last... it's an amazing sounding player.
