Excellent. Decide what equipment you will actually use and work out how much you can spend on each bit.

What sources do you want to use? Records, CDs, computer derived music? It's good to get a decent source. You can skimp a bit on an amplifier to start off with. A cheap but respectable one will still give you sound. Even speakers don't need to be a huge expense --- I'd give some thought to how big you want these. Floor standing, stand mounted compact speakers or small bookshelf items.

I don't know, that Kenwood would be allright, put some decent speakers on the end of it and not the rubbish it comes with.
For £30 quid of course, Nothing more, And forget the turntable if you want decent replay as they are the next best thing to junk

I've got plenty of speakers can choose from I mean at the moment I've got 7 pairs around the flat, not all being used mind. In the living room i'm running a Onkyo receiver that controls the audio and video for my movies or music which is fed through a laptop (only used for media).
Had this for a bit now and feel like something is missing... I'm old school when it comes to this stuff (this Onkyo to me is like a computer with all its menus and settings) an would rather have a separate amp, eq, DAC etc that I can chop and change as need be and improve slowly on one item at a time.

Normally I would have been grinding my teeth by now thinking of what a deal I missed on that Kenny but you guys helped me think straight and I'm very grateful for your help. As you recommended I'm going to save up a few quid then ask on this forum.

Great bunch of guys and girls here and know I'll be looked after.

Not to be confused with the basic 780 (which is still OK) or the different looking later version, which is not in the same league in my view. These 780SE speakers have a really well integrated and very musical sound and kick well above their weight. I had a pair in my system for a few years alongside my big Tannoys and they were a delight. Mission got it right with these. They are popular with quite a few members here.

I have some Kef k160s, ditton ul-8s, Kenwood ls-83s, Celeste iiis, Coda iiis and some others I can't remember right now. Speaker front I think I'm OK for a while and would need to offload some of these sets before I can buy any more.

The UL 8 Celestions are worth hanging onto if in good condition. They are rare and becoming a bit of a collectors item.

They need to be re-coned as the previous owner blew one bass driver and a guest put a ciggy burn in the other bass driver. Saw on here a thread where a user was selling some ul-8 bits and was going to ask him what I should expect to pay for these drivers. The x overs look OK tbh but will be recapped when time and funds allow. They did come with the original stands too.
