I see this thread is coming up to half a million views. And this is only part 2 of it, no wonder there are no bargains on eBay anymore

When I started the thread it was in response to a genuine bargain that I had seen on eBay. However in anticipation that some items do and would go for silly money, I added the question mark to the title.

Sadly eBay has become so successful, genuine bargains are now few and far between. I've had a few (a Nagra IV-S reel-to-reel machine, some cartridges and camera lenses), but nowadays I take quiet comfort in looking the grossly elevated prices of gear I bought years ago for a song.

You've got to take inflation into account. At our age 20 years passes like nothing so that amp or deck you bought for £1000 in 1996 and is now selling for, say, £2300 is still valued about the same as you paid then. It's your money that is worth less.

Locally to me there is a small Town with a ' Local Hospital ' Thrift Shop run by Retiree Volunteers.
Recent years it's been discovered by seeming Trailer park resident Gleaners .. who must travel significant distances from where they sleep.
Clearly all looking for 'stuff' for resale.
Massive (1$ ?) profits to be found in discarded Lp's and 70's receivers you know.

Interesting World we have built for our children and grandchildren.. ain't it ?

It's all those daft TV shows like Storage Wars and that. People see it and think that it looks like an easy way to make a few quid. It's a fad, as Spinal Tap's chauffeur would say
