remember when there was only 2 and the were only on some of the time. 405 lines. then along came bbc2. I was still young but it was amazed at the better picture.. it was on uhf and 625 lines. not sure when, but some time in the 60's. those old 405 line sets lasted for years after though(built like brick outhouses) Remotes were originally fly by wire, and then the ultra sonic ones came out. they were a nightmare as rattling keys or the like set the damn things off.. some of them went on well into the late 70's... Thorns especially were really sensitive and needed careful setting up.

We had rediffusion with the ole ABC box on the window sill to change the channels. I remember my Dad moving the TV to another room , to change channels i would have to get off settee through door down hallway into old room , pull back the curtain turn switch on the box.
