Yes but won't work into a standard modern phono stage. Both impedance and gain will be mismatched.

Yes it needs a pretty high impedance if I recall and RIAA equalisation will not apply.

There's actually variability in how they work .. some (many) are self-equalising so you don't need a phono stage, but attenuation is needed as the signal is far too high for modern inputs.Interesting, Tom. In what way exactly?

Other need EQ but the impedance is wrong and you still have the gain issue, will overload most phono stages.

Interesting, and noted. It's the sort of info, however, which should be included in the seller's advert, in order to prevent folk, who don't know any better, buying it thinking that it's a 'normal' cartridge!
Didn't the BBC once use them for broadcasting (playing vinyl) in their radio stations?

Yes. I believe the BBC did use them. Back in the late sixties and early seventies they had plenty of fans in radio studios and were also the mobile DJ's cartridge of choice, as they were tough reasonably cheap and sounded good. I was involved in the mobile DJ game back then and we used them exclusively. The Deram is possibly the best sounding mass produced ceramic cartridge, although I have come across Acos items that sounded decent too. The more common Sonotones did not compete in my view.
