Two schools of thought then. One that says we shouldn't give a second thought to things that we can't control and should instead concentrate on enjoying our pathetic little lives by going to see the new Star Wars film, and another which says we should not be interested in such fripperies and instead lie awake at night worrying about what will happen if Donald Trump becomes President. Personally I'm in the first camp.

Well, I saw it... and thoroughly enjoyed it. For me it is the ultimate fairytale, it evokes the games we played in the schoolyard and for many of my generation will always be a cultural event when a film comes out.
Christmas, the new Adele album, and the football can all go hang though.
One of these days... I'm going to cut you into little pieces.
As a kid in the 1970s I used to love the old Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials they would show in the mornings during the school holidays.
So when I went to see Star Wars and it started exactly the same way - with that intro text scrolling off backwards into the screen - I got it straight away. This was going to be an updated version of those old 1930s shows but in colour - and with proper special effects. Even at eight years old I recall thinking 'why has no-one thought of doing this before?'. And the film did not disappoint. Even so, although it follows rule number one - 'always open with action' = the first half-hour or so is very slow by the standards of contemporary action films, especially those aimed at a younger market. It was that conscious nod to the old serials and the overall look of the film and its credible 'used universe' motif that held my attention I think.

Was quite sceptic, then I had a lot of fun yesterday. Some sentimental, but Kylo Ren is a good bad one and is my favourite!
I think part of it was the way it borrowed from so many genres - Westerns, Samurai, War, Swashbucklers, and put it all together by setting it completely outside of our time and space so all of the diverse references and styles make sense. Who had done that before?

Just back
Not as great as I had hoped it would be but still a rollicking good watch. Quite dark in places.
