Well, I have no idea if the same applies to non-classical, I should imagine that it does.

But, anyway, the Spot catalogue certainly is huge! ... there's just some music I want that isn't on it but is on Tidal. Bah!

Giulini Figaro with Anna Moffo and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf - not vinyl sadly (have you seen how much they change hands for?) but this is the pic I'll use when the CDs are ripped into my library.

Probably my favourite version of SS3. I am an admirer of Fremaux's conducting; straight forward and disciplined, but lets the emotional strength of the music through as well.
Played on LP, then repeated the finale on Spotify Premium.
Spotify sounded better.



A fine performance. A little austere in the 1st mvt, but overwhelming in the slow mvt's more emotional moments. A goodun.

Concerto #1 from this.
A perfect cello concerto from 1st note to last. Totally yummy.

I have to confess that I usually find Giulini's interpretations to be slow and ponderous to the point of tedium, if not lacking in grandeur when appropriate.
But his approach certainly pays dividends here. And he is almost frisky in the scherzo!
But overall, monumental might be my 1-word-review.

I am a fan of the Montreal Symphony / Charles Dutoit recording of the Organ Symphony - the sound is one of Decca's best and it is a compelling performance. The organ is a physical as you could wish. I bet that Fremaux is pretty tasty though so I shall give it a whirl on Spotify.
