“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

For all those still waiting, I will be placing 150 Pi-DAC+ on Tindie.com later today. I wanted to post here first to give you all a heads up.
At the same time, we'll be adding our new TI TAS5756M based Pi-DigiAMP+ board. This is in effect a combined Pi-DAC+ and 2x20w Pi-AMP+ class D amp but at a £25 or so saving over the previous pairing. It uses the same linux drivers as the Pi-DAC+ so software compatibility is already solved. We see the Pi-DigiAMP+ as being suitable for a small main listening environment or 2nd room system. Just add speakers.
Very best regards,
Gordon

Just found this thread at a time when the DAC actually seems to be available and wifey is hoping for a "tidy up" of the considerable number of CDs lying around.
TBH I cannot be bothered to read 149 pages but a quick skim read seems to indicate the usual pattern:
Rave review of new computer audio thingy
An additional couple of seemingly positive reviews
A couple of less positive reviews
Endless discussion of settings and software versions
Emperor is seen to be wearing something but not much
So I decided to get my old SB3 (custom linear PSU) out and have a listen. I also used to own an SB+.
The sound - using the same DAC** and digital cable - is like MP3 compared to my ancient Arcam CDP as transport.
I've also had an Aurender on loan along with a silly price digital cable that needed a battery. This sounded pretty much identical to my Arcam and homemade digital cable as a transport.
Sorry to be so negative chaps, but is this new flavour of the month piece of kit going to be up there with the Aurender and Arcam. or is it going to be a damp squib like the SB3?
** The dac is one of these but with special analogue supplies (and no crappy toroidal transformer):
