Yep, same here. It will play, but as soon as another task kicks in, such as access from the web browser, there's a glitch. Looking at the process monitor, the processor is getting a hammering, so I guess the Pi is running out of steam at this point. Not sure I could discern the difference between the high and very high resampling settings anyway, other than audiophilia nervosa setting in.

I increased the buffer size and it played correctly for longer, then it fell over.. lol

Is there a way to totally disable the volume control in Volumio so it's only the amp that can adjust it? I'm sure I read a thread on that the other day but I've been looking for it and can't find it now. Ah might have found it, do I set the Mixer Type in Volumio to Disabled?

Yep - go to 'Playback' in the Menu options and choose 'disabled' from the Volume Mixer options (don't forget to save that setting before moving on ... I have many times)

Edited to add that I have found he 'Hardware' setting the best option so far with 'disabled' causing the most clipping of high frequencies. With hardware enabled I set the onscreen volume between 70 to 75 and this gives playback that's as sweet as a nut. Strangely this is best input to the Radio in on my Quad 34/303 set up. I say strange because the Radio input is rated at 100mv and is normally totally unsuitable for the output levels of my other DACS .......

Ok... guys we have a problem.

Within the last hour everythng has gone wrong.

I copied some new tracks to the HD. Started up the Pi and logged in to Volumio. I then updated the HDD in Volumio. The HDD made some heathly reading noises then stopped... I waited and waited... 'Updating' it was saying... and waited until the HDD switched off.

Right... I checked the USB path in Volumio and nothing was updated apart from the first few folders.

So I re-jigged some files on the HDD... did the proceedure again... no luck, same as before.

I plugged in another drive... same thing.

So I downloaded Rune instead of Volumio, thinking it was corrupted in the SD card.

I've just tried to write the IQAudio version of Rune to the 8GB card but it says it has no room.

Not enough space on the disk: Size: 15415296 sectors Available: 15130624 sectors - Sector size: 512

Does anyone know what I can do... I've downloaded SD Formatter and formatted the card but nope....

I'll stick Volumio back on it but can anyone shed any light on this... it was all working perfectly until I copied the new tracks to the HDD.

Getting a bit worried now. It now can't see the wifi and the updating is simply not working... bugger!

At a guess I would think that running the HDD via USB was taking the power load to the edge and that the update toppled it over - If you are running on the stock Pi wall wart this could certainly be the case.

As far as the Rune Audio image you could try a 16gb card which should accommodate it with ease - Staples or Currys/PC World in the neighbourhood?

In the meantime you could revert to a USB stick with your previous Volumio card and see if that helps (unless the power demands have crippled the Pi

As already said, it could be a power problem. What type of usb HDD are you using? Is this the first major MPD update and scan of audio files on your HDD that you've made? What is the rating of your RPi PSU? A reboot may have determined if the system was corrupt.

IIRC Gordon mentioned somewhere that his IQAudio version of Rune may not fit all 8GB cards. Not all 8GB cards have the same storage capacity. It's always a good idea to back up your SD card so you can reflash after a system crash, if in fact this is what has happened.

The HDD is a powered one so I didn't think that would cause a problem. It was working fine until I put some more files on the drive too!

It's now been going for over an hour now updating and it's now updated most of the folders. So it's very, very slow.

I've updated a few times without any probs...

It's the original RPi PSU btw.


Still updating.... grr!

I'm intrigued by these reports of the iQdac sound harsh or rough, I have one of the new boards and it's anything but...I wold try it with the re sampling set to off to start with and if you are using 16/44.1 source material stick to intega re sampling IE. 16/88.2 or 16/176.4
