I Finally have my pi/dac connected to my main system in the living room, streaming from my NAS drive via a wifi adaptor, Volumio was a bit of a pain to set up but seems ok now, but it does feel like a very flaky piece of software. For the price the sound quality is amazing, sounding a little smoother and more detailed then my Bushmaster/Touch combination, just wished Volumio was more reliable, will have a look at what other software is out there, would be nice to get ipeng up and running with it.

Correction to my penultimate post:

RPi Newbie here ..about to ask some silly questions...

I have the PI +IQAudio up and running using ethernet. I have just bought an approved wi-fi dongle and despite following Martin T's excellent instructions just cannot get it to be recognised. I've rebooted several times, used different usb ports, disconnected the ethernet and rebooted ...all to no avail. I need to go wireless as I've ordered a NAS which I believe needs to be connected by ethernet for best results.

I've googled the 'issue' and although there are several solutions offered to others they all involve typing in code. (http://www.raspyfi.com/wi-fi-on-rasp...-simple-guide/).

At present my system is 'headless'.

However, just to try - I plugged in an hdmi cable + keyboard to my TV. Volumio crashed. Am I right that Volumio does not contain an OS? If so, do I have to squeeze an OS such as Raspian onto the same micro-SD card?

Any help gratefully received. One small possibility is that it's the dongle of course - but I somehow doubt it.

Get picoreplayer https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home then you can get rid of Volumio and have a squeezebox to fit in with your infrastructure. Squeezeplug/Max2Play is also a possibility although that is not as lightweight (but it does include the option of LMS on a RPi!)

Bonky, make sure you have the ethernet and wifi adaptor coneected at the same time, boot the pi and enter the wifi details (modem name, security type, password) into Volumio under network in the menu, save and reboot and it should pick up the wifi connection, unplug the ethernt cable and it should work, but I have found vollumio to be very hit and miss.

has anyone played with the bit-depth yet? Any thoughts?

I can alter the bit depth so long as it stays at 44.1khz but I can't seem to move up on the khz scale as it jumps like mad.
