When you plug the HDD in, does it say 'Updating' in the bottom left of Volumio?
Or have you gone in to Library and clicked Update Library ?

I tried connecting it using the NAS Mount and keep getting a red cross with address not found (or something like that). Then tried plugging the HDD into the Pi, I then get NAS, USB and RAM show up in Library, but no music files. I have done Library update, but nothing!

    Worked fine last night... wtf?
    Alan,

Somewhat distracted, so didn't give this my full attention. Assumed you meant correct password was entered but failed to connect and eventually timed out. Good to know problem is now sorted.

You might find it handy to save a putty ssseion and create a shortcut for it on your Windows desktop:

Just trying again using my Android tablet as my wife is using the PC. I do now have 'updating' in the bottom LH corner.
Fingers crossed, I may have something soon!

Volumio did not find my HDD. I found out that it was a filesystem issue. After I formatted the music HDD to fat32, it was all ok. The other alternatives NTFS or VFAT did not work.
Only problem is that you need a special program to format a large HDD to fat32. Fat32 is the usual format of usb memory sticks. So you could try with a stick.

My HDD is NTFS I think... and all of the files are in the root so no sub-dir's.

If it's updating it must be doing something... so as Juha says, have a look at your HDD format first and then the DIR structure later?

Some progress, I now have Spotify working!

It's the 'NAS mount' that is causing the problem, just going to try a USB stick as suggested.
