Yes I'm a total numpty. No drivers in the standard Volumio board for the Digi+. I just got a copy of Raspabian with the drivers on and am about to try it.

Sorry, but that's just not true. You need to activate the i2s driver and reboot. Look again at Volumio interface.

Activated it but (as before with Volumio) it's hanging up now when I try to link in the NAS. Aaarrgggg! That's why I switched to Rune Audio previously.

Trying to link to the NAS will require the right settings for several things in the Add New Mount section

A Name without spaces or none alpha characters
FileShare Protocol
IP Address
Remote directory
Guest Access
or UserName/password

Are you comfortable with what you have entered in these because you make absolutely no comment on any of them?
For someone who declares themselves a numpty those are quite techy things to enter and if any are wrong it will sit and not connect

Well I do have an Unix administrator's certificate in the drawer from the early 80s and I still work for a big IT company, but very much in a business role this past 15 years or so (original degree is in music) ... I would be hopeless with any command line stuff these days, but by and large can cope with settings on a web page (and obviously, I'm aware precision is key on things like upper/lower case etc) ... this step went fine with Rune Audio so there's obviously something in what I'm doing with Volumio. Unless it's just taking a long time to map 100gb of data on the NAS. Wifi is working fine now but until I have a library available to play from I can't get any further.

The NAS offers an NFS option and so does Volumio I might enable that and see how it goes. I've tried both guest access (no username/password) and admin with password. IP address of the NAS is from the router page. All this worked fine with Rune Audio (to the point of getting sound out of the analog socket), except I can't locale a disk image compatible with the Hifiberry Digi+ board and also it wasn't working too well with MPad. (Never got that far with Volumio.

A similar path to myself, without the pieces of paper and still technical rather than business. I don't use a NAS myself but tried to get Volumio to see my MacBooks share I had created. Ended up using guest access and it was slow to connect. It did connect sometimes. That is with a Pi B not a Pi2 B. I gave up and am using a big USB drive both with Rune (which I currently prefer) and Volumio. Haven't tried Rune doing the Mac share.

One should use the web way rather than command line I believe.

Another day to have a flash of inspiration.

Is this a correct summary for you?

1 Volumio now shows the hifiberry DIGI+ as a selectable sound device (possibly its appears as sndhifiberry) but you can't get Voulmio to mount your NAS share.

2. Runeaudio mounts your NAS share, but you haven't, or cannot, activate your hifiberry DIGI+ i2s sound card.


As you can see from my sig, I have had a RPiB+/HifiDigi+ combo in use for a few months now. When I tested Volumio and Rune, I did'nt have your problems, but I was using a wired connection and being familiar with Linux was able to check things via the command line.

If you currently have Runeaudio loaded on your SD card, I would check if you've gone through the settings, correctly selecting any i2s options. See : http://www.runeaudio.com/documentation/runeui/settings/ and then go back to the MPD config page on Rune.

If you still fail to get this working on Runeaudio, you'll have to tackle the mount problem on Volumio. You can safely do some checks at the command line on Volumio to help debug the situation, but not alter settings, as Alan warned, because Volumio maintains an internal database of configuration settings.

One common point of error when entering info for a Windows share on Volumio is having a leading slash in the "remote directory name". If your NAS share is for example \\192.168.1.75\Public\Music, then you'd enter Public/Music as the remote directory.

In Rune I have just tried to mount my MacBook and got the error : mount error(22): Invalid argument Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

Searching Rune Forum it seems I am not alone.

Do you get an Error message from Volumio you can investigate??

How about copying all mount settings from Rune (that does mount) and replicate in Volumio

If you intend to use Volumio, you can set it up now as is, configure it to use for example an external USB DAC, or RPi built-in audio and your USB HDD as source of audio files. When the IQaudio DAC arrives, power down correctly, rebuild device, power on and re-configure Volumio to use i2s DAC etc.
