    I think the grills are genuine and original. They were an alternative to the oatmeal linen at least in the UK. I had a pair of AR6s with the same brown grills.

    Those are not AR grille cloths. I remember a brown alternative, but those shown on the AR4Xa speakers is the cheap Tygan type stuff that used to be sold in electrical shops (note the faint stripey effect). I used it myself.
    It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

    Here's a pic of mine. I thought them identical to the 4xa's currently on ebay.

    Well, well. That does look like the cloth on the AR4XAs. It's not one I remember. I recall a plain brown with a slight fleck like the oatmeal ones.

    The AR7s come close to the AR4x in overall quality, and the bass end is very similar.
    My early '7s have veneered cabinets. I understand the later ones had a plastic veneer-like finish.
    I always think it is a little sad to see what looks like wood, but isn't.
