    I have not heard these despite being a Bruch fanboy. Unlike Franz Schreker who is currently invisible in the shadow of Richard Strauss Max has emerged refulgent despite the reputation of Brahms. Are the symphonies of the same standard as this concerto style works?

    They aren't as obviously melodic and accessible - "good sturdy mid-European romantic orchestral" probably sums them up for me - well worth an occasional airing, and maybe they'll grow on me more as I hear them more.

    A major Telemann splurge in the last few days ...







    Marvellous music! An exact (if longer lived) contemporary of JS Bach, but with a rather more upbeat and less serious personality.

    I enjoyed that lot so much that I have ordered the complete Tafelmusik on 4 CDs conducted by Harnoncourt ....
