Yes, they were mentioned here a few days ago and as I had a vague interest in possibly buying them I checked the location.
(not bothering now. Other speaker plans afoot, which may result in a DIY thread)

Wonder if they work ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Pi...item540f678347
"they didn't sound too good the last time I heard them" doesn't really inspire confidence... They look a bit tricky to re-foam.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

No, they're pleated doped paper. Looking closer at the pictures I can see why they didn't sound right. There's a split running round the surround pleat on both units, probably been overdriven. Easy to fix with a bit of care. Might be worth having? Maybe at a rather lower price though.

[QUOTE=Macca;577979][QUOTE=synsei;577976]I spotted these earlier this week and the missus and I were having a giggle over the name of the village where they are located. I lived in Kent for 20 years and I've not heard of it, must be down in the south of the county as I know North Kent very well. It's a very nice village that has merged into the conurbation of Maidstone but still kept its character, one of the few places in Kent where water cress grows abundantly in the small river. Neighbouring Boughton Monchelsea is also very nice.
It's just south of Maidstone according to Streetmap:
