There's not really much to go wrong or indeed need fettling to be honest Jerry. Technics being owned by Matsushita [Panasonic] used their own top quality capacitors which tend to last very well compared to their contemporaries. I would suggest it just needs a dust out and a bias check which any tech can do... No need for a specialist

I am wary of sellers who go to such efforts to make sure there is no possibility of return, that's all - I never buy electronics without a return policy, simple. It's the first time I have seen someone list something for 'parts not working' when it supposedly works perfectly to avoid getting a return. I am not the only one to have been surprised by the terms of the listing.

Anyway, let's move on. You read it one way, I read it another, that's fine.

I can see your point that it can encourage someone to treat it as if it's all fine.. still, I don't think someone saying no returns can actually prevent a refund via PayPal if they've also stated in the text that it works fully - the contradiction is kind of abusing the system even if done with good intentions and it will still fall in to the catagory of not being as described.. God knows ebay and PayPal will pull you up on any sort of little problem if someone wants to cause you trouble.

I would love to know what would happen though if you bought something with a stated fault and it turned out not to have it.. Would you get a refund via PayPal? And that it is a bonus that the fault is not there is just an opinion, an assumption. Technically it is not as described - could have needed that fault in order to do something particular, like record some distortion for an audio project or maybe an item with a "safety feature" that limits performance and is better and more desirable without it.

Bolivar were some sort of JBL offshoot. Apparently very good.

Well worth it for the cost of re-foaming the bass drivers and some suction on that tweeter.

Yep, Short lived JBL - Harmon spin off from the late 70's. They made 3 models all using the same chipboard cabinet

Model 125 - 2 Way 8" Bass\Mid
Model 18 - 3 Way 8" Bass
Model 64 - 3 Way 10" Bass

18 & 64 shared the same mid range, all 3 models shared the same tweeter as far as I know. All were 4 ohm speakers. Crossovers varied but were at best very basic.

James, I've got a pair of 125's in the loft if you fancy a play. Drivers were re-foamed by me, my first attempt but they seem ok, no voice coil rubbing. Had them up for sale a while back but no serious interest, obviously priced em far too high at £20 Not looking for anything for them to a regular AOS member such as yourself, though transport might be a challenge. They are in pretty good nick for 35 yr old vinyl wrap speakers.

The Bolivars weren't a patch on real JBLs. I heard them when they were (briefly) on the market and owned some of the drive units, which were being sold off after they stopped selling the whole systems. I thought they were pretty average, a bit like the Studiocraft range of conventional speakers Bose sold at around the same time (I owned the 220 after selling my Tannoy IIILZs, big mistake). The Bolivar surrounds were very short lived, even the foam around the tweeter cones used to fall apart after a couple of years.

Is it just a problem at my end? I've noticed that for a few days various 'bits' of eBay aren't functioning. The chevron on the right of pages that takes you back to the top is sometimes missing or non-functional. The little drop-down menu on the right of saved items on the 'my eBay' page is not working and neither is the deletion facility for ended items. I'd not made any changes to my PC, so it's not something I've done. I thought I.E. might be having a problem, so I've just downloaded Firefox, but it's behaving the same way. Must be a problem at eBay, I've noticed in the past that they have maintenance periods when stuff either is not available or doesn't work. Maybe it'll all come back together in a day or two.
