Well it took me a total of 11 days to watch the entire 5 series (62 episodes) of Breaking Bad!!! Bit like a tin of Pringles, once you pop it, you just can't stopI'm currently hooked on this - in the middle of Series 3 at the mo.
Onto The West Wing again right now for the third time and its still my top TV series of all time.

We're just coming to the end of series 7 for about the 5th time (always watch it at this time of year). Great series and like you Tim, easily my favorite TV series of all time

Oblivion [Blu-ray]
Much better than I expected, in fact a thoroughly good film. The vistas and overall cinematography in particular are excellent, but the acting is uniform and the storyline not too similar to previous films, although there are definite elements of deja vu. HAL2000's eye, anyone? Together with Cloud Atlas, the best looking SF film of the year.

Saturday night the Mrs.and i, fresh from six weeks of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy got the DVD of Smiley's People and did a six hour marathon, finally going to bed at 4:30am. It was bloody fantastic, I don't think the BBC could do anything of that quality these days.

Both series were first class and bare repeated viewing. I'm not sure I agree with your your doubts that the BBC can continue to "do anything of that quality these days". I think they can and will continue to do so. One example I would cite would be be 'Dancing on the Edge', shown early this year.
