Maybe you need to ditch the nylon shell suit then
I also use a cork/rubber mat and I rarely get a static issue but it does occasionally happen which is why I think it is environmental. Never had the mat lift off with the record though, although that used to happen sometimes with the felt mat I used to use.

I would have though that a low humidity environment would be likely to increase static rather than decrease it? Hence why I always got electrocuted pressing the button for the lift when in Las Vegas. Very dry there.

Yup. Central heating dries the air and will increase static. You can buy gizmos which hook over radiators with a water trough which humidifies. Arthur was talking on tuesday of a gadget he has planned for dealing with static. I put a wet sponge in a dish
