    talking of ebay, I saw a pair of chartwell pm400 speakers, I am new to the world of sound but read these were awesome back in the day, anyone have any advice on chartwell ?

    I remember Practical HiFi doing a feature review on the entire Chartwell range, including the PM400's, back in the early 80's (may have been the late 70's thinking about it) and they rated them very highly

    Yep, and people needn't be scared of refoaming them... I've read accounts of them not sounding them same afterwards & can tell you now that is complete codswallop. If you buy the correct surrounds [not any 8" surround will fit!] and take your time they'll be perfect.

    Fred @ Audiofriends/Goodhifi now has stocks of the very same replacement surrounds Audionote sell which are a perfect fit & very supple... They are as good as the originals are far as I can tell. Here's one I did the other day:
