Well that was short lived One of the HF2000's has decided to go open circuit Time to upgrade those tweeters to some Seas methinks...

One of them will be yes... The other working tweeter is mint so I'll be selling that to fund the Seas tweeters + recap. To be honest I already mentally marked the grill "for Martins Gales"

Equally interesting, I have removed both of the HF2000's & fitted some spare Vifa D19's I had in the parts box and aside from being around 3dB too hot they sound bloomin' identical ! Apparently the crossover frequency from mid to tweeter in the 44's is 6kHz so the tweeters aren't doing an awful lot anyway... Any idea of the crossover frequency on the GS401's ?

I'd heard those Vifa tweeters were a good replacement. 5kHz crossover frequency.

If you PM me your address I'll forward it... Only one left to find now eh !?

Some clever chap over on the diyaudio forums has calculated the necessary crossover circuit for the Seas 19TFF1 to give a well integrated & flat frequency response. This can be achieved whilst keeping the original inductor which is nice... All I have to do is increase the 6uf cap in the HF section to 10uf, add 15R in parallel & 1R in series with the tweeter.

I just need to work out the cosmetics as I don't want a silk dome with plastic faceplate sitting there... Even if its under the grillcloth I'll know its there !

You are a star, James. I already have one grill, so it's only another one that I needed! Taken to PM

"Seller refurbished" - I dread to think what it was like prior to the 'restoration' & What Cambridge Audio have to do with it I've no idea, the spec sheet glued to the cabinet says Acoustics Research

That would be worth a punt at such a low starting price - the guy clearly doesn't know what they are. The AR 3a sounded bloody good at the time. I think the tweeters were prone to blow so I'd want to know they're working first.
