having owned many vintage Celestions, I reckon it's glue overlap. Celestion were a bit slap happy back then and not too concerned with cosmetics. The brown deposit around the bass cones is glue too. As it's old, hard and probably oxidised, I think you'll find it scrapes off fairly easily.

Top one is a Hawker Sea Fury. One of the fastest prop planes ever! Saw one doing the business at an air show, lovely plane.

They're OK Shane, but not wonderful. My mate had a pair and I actually preferred my smaller DC1000s at the time, they were a bit more coherent.

Check the seller's feedback. You may have trouble if they go cheap!

That sounds promising, I do recall both the 15's & 33's drivers I've had were a bit rough & ready looking.
