Fantastic Russian WW2 horror film. Think Duel but with tanks and you are not too far off. Surreal at times, with an underlying supernatural element and lots of questions left unanswered. I once heard a Russian author say that great Russian literature is designed to make the reader think not be entertained and this movie does a bit of that, though it is thrilling and entertaining as well as thought provoking.

Fantastic battles, great action, very real hardware, and no evidence of budget constraints this movie is a feast for the eyes and the brain.

One of the most interesting films I have seen in quite awhile and very different.

Downhill? Duel is good, but Jaws is close to being a perfect film. After that he went downhill a bit. Close Encounters - that was a lot about nothing.

I agree about Duel but never enjoyed Jaws!! Close Encounters is one of my favourite films. I guess we all see different things when we look (and listen?)

Downloaded 'The American' with George Clooney last night on the Apple TV.

Really enjoyed it. A slow, thoughtful, 'European' style film with some gorgeous photography of the Italian countryside.

I thought that was an absolute cracker, Julian. A film for those who are patient and don't need constant action for their entertainment.

Interesting thanks Martin... He also wrote the screenplay for 'The Social Network' which is an excellent film
