Music Collections: How Do You Store Yours?

It looks jolly nice that way. Don't think I could stand the LPs that way though as they get used rather more often than the books. I am totally disorganised in everything I do so actually getting the books in order is much harder for me than just putting one back in the right colour.

It's is funny how everyone's different, I hate things out of order, my Mum on the other hand prefers organised chaos, when she is cooking the kitchen looks like a bomb's hit it, but she knows exactly where everything is and (don't tell my wife) is still the best cook I know!

Wow, funny that this thread has just come back to life as just the other day I ordered 1000 of the jazzloft CD sleeves for my collection. Even with my new cupboards I'm still short of space so will have a similar set up to Alex. All my CDs are ripped but sometimes when I'm feeling indecisive I still like to reach into the cupboard and grab a handful to spin. I like the tactile thing, but not enough to start a serious vinyl collection. Also the jazzloft sleeves make your CDs look like mini vintage gatefold albums which is pretty cool.

Probably, but to me cd's are just disposably rubbish. I only have 50 or so, only reason i have a decent cd player (slp1200) is because it was cheap in a local second hand shop.

Yes, from what I understand it should be possible to read the spines as long as you don't cram them together too tightly. I searched and searched for a similar product from a UK retailer to try and avoid the customs charges and came across these... http://www.opti-pack.co.uk/product_i...roducts_id/392

After some consideration I decided that the jazzloft ones looked more classy and being able to read the spine and keep the tray insert as part of the package was the decider. I also hear these http://covers33.co.uk/index.php/cd/c...ack-box-of-100 are very good if you can live with a vertical indexing system. Maybe good if using storage boxes, they also hold all the disc graphics.

So what quantity did you order and what was the all up price?

I am currently in the process of 'Alexifying' my CD collection, its taking awhile as each album will be archived away and may not see the light of day for years. All my albums have already been ripped to FLAC files and because the albums will be stored away and not easily accessible, I am scanning each booklet from cover to cover, the disc itself and the rear slip sleeve to a single pdf document, so I have a digital copy of all the documentation. This can then be viewed/read on my tablet PC which also controls my audio system remotely and now I can flip through the cover art and read the booklets whilst listening to the album . . . works well for me. The great thing about having them as a pdf on the tablet is not only the ease of simply flipping through my library, but you can enlarge them for easy reading, just by using the touch enlarge finger gesture . . . brilliant for old eyes

I use sleeves which André recommended from Wilkinson's which are a good grade of plastic, the Tesco ones are very flimsy now. A pack of 50 sleeves are currently £1.70



The stack on the left is 20 albums in the Wilko wallets and the right stack 20 CD's in the jewel case, so quite a difference space wise. The jewel case goes in the recycle bin and I keep albums in cardboard digipacks complete, but I still scan them to pdf. Its going to take me awhile as I have over 3,000 discs now and have only done a couple of hundred, but storing 3,000+ discs on a rack was becoming a problem and as I no longer play them on a CDP, there was no point.

I ordered 1000 and the price was $205 which is 135quid at today's rate. Of course its likely I'll get charged for customs fees as its over 15quid so after dealing with the bulk of the collection I'll but them by the hundred after that, thus no customs charges.

I'm looking forward to filling the car boot with all that useless plastic and taking it for recycling. Very sad, like a top gear caravanist
