It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Now don't get me wrong, they look to be in superb condition but arent they budget floorstanders ? Those tweeters used to cost between £5 -£10 each... I just cant understand the price

I have to agree. That Audax tweeter was a real cheapie which always sounded veiled in every speaker I heard it. Whenever it was replaced with something better, the speaker took several paces forward in terms of performance.

What did surprise me was that the RR1 retailed for £799 in 2001. I'd expected it to be cheaper with that tweeter.

Can you really have two quadraphonic speakers?

Couldn't agree more... Royd probably modified it somehow as with every tweeter they used but you cant make a silk purse from a sow's ear !

That whole review/specification page looks iffy at best... Reviewer states sensitivity is 87dB yet the specs say 83dB, reviewer states metal dome tweeter used yet pictures show the dreaded Audax POS & then there's the frequency response ! 28hz@-3dB from a 5" driver in a baby floorstander ? Somewhat doubtful

Having owned an amazing smaller pair of Royds a few years ago, I'd take those over a £400 pair of new Monitor Audio or something any day of the week ...

Credit to the seller though - he was much happier to take offers on PFM rather than sell on ebay even with 163+ watchers!

I've owned & enjoyed Minstrels, Doublets, Conistons, Edens & Apex's so I'm not knocking the brand I just thought the price was daft considering any of the aforementioned would eat them for breakfast at half the price IMO.

This looks very cheap. A pair of Audio Technica mono moving coil cartridges for £195!

One for the (few) mono buffs.
