Yesterday - live DVD concert ....



Seeing the frail old geezer (he was 88 at the time of the recording in 2000) conducting one of the mightiest orchestral works in the repertoire is a bit of a surreal experience - in the nicest possible way!

... also a CD of harpsichord and organ music by Johan Ludwig Krebs - a fave pupil of JS Bach - was highly enjoyable



So much so that I've ordered a CD of some larger scale organ works.

JSB said of him "the best crayfish (Kreb) in the brook (Bach)"
--- German humour at its best - oh, how we are laughing.

I felt the same about seeing Eugen Jochum conducting the VPO in Beethoven's 9th many years ago. That man had huge control and authority.

Quite possibly the best SACD sound quality I have heard - hey, I actually enjoyed this one!

Received my copy yesterday, Jerry, and I agree it's an excellent disc all round.

And also played 1 LP from this set, obtained with many others yesterday on a lightning raid on an Oxfam specialist music/book charity shop.



And this, too, possibly the best ever Midsummer Night Dream overture? Peter Maag conducting.
And a superb Hebrides, as well.
