Was looking in a cd box of dance music to put something on for the missus while she was doing aerobics and came across this



Had it years and never played it

Baby bear porridge, not too angsty, not too neutral and a BIG recorded sound, lots of dynamic range and detail. Must explore his other Mahler's.

Not sure the missus was too impressed at trying to do aerobics to it though

Much more interesting - I like Tuur's music anyway, and the 2 pieces here are good. The Rachmaninov choral songs are great, too, and superbly recorded. Not sure about the rare Sibelius piece, The Wood Nymph; the music's fine but there is a very closely recorded narrator .... .

I have his Mahler 3, 5 & 6. They come across to me as 'plain vanilla' interpretations - I have a nagging feeling that I should like them more than I actually do!

I think that is how I am enjoying Mahler most at the minute, not sterile but not OTT either. Some extra spice may be flavour of the month in time



listened to this over lunch. I enjoyed the Tuur. I couldn't cope with the narrator on the Sibelius and had to skip it.

Played the Brahms 2nd symphony again - and once again really enjoyed it! Strange, considering my former antipathy to Karajan!



Wonderful music! I have 5 CDs from this series. Quite decently recorded, too.

I bought this after reading Jerry's rec on the Bruckner 8 thread

These seem to go for £30-40 but I got it for about a tenner delivered from an ebay seller (different cover on the CD case) - they have relisted it so I'm presuming they have a few, get one while they're hot if you want one

There's a very nice EMI boxed set of Bruckner symphonies with Jochum/Dresden Statskapelle which you may still be able to find cheap. Superb performances.
