Ah, I thought there must be an F1 thread running already. I'm already enjoying this season for all the variables it has thrown up, although the artificial nature of the tyre degradation slightly spoils the idea of drivers going all-out for the entire race.

Who would have bet on Raikonnen winning the first race? Good on him, and it's rather thrown things wide open. I'm glad to see Hamilton happy with his team and car, surprised to see McLaren develop such a poor design, uplifted by Ferrari's new found performance and continue to wonder whether Vettel's performance is always flattered by an excellent car.

I'll be watching Massa and Webber for new-found zoom and wondering whether Button can develop a poor package or will just continue to whinge. Will Perez be a wise choice or would di Resta have been a better one.

Etc. Looking forward to Malaysia.

I had mixed feelings about the race on Sunday. I'm not Raikonnens biggest fan although it was nice to see someone other than Vettel topping the standings. The McLaren seems to be a pig of a car sadly, and it was painful to watch both Button and Peres mooching about in midfield.

I enjoyed watching Sutil's brief period at the front of the field, that Force India is looking very competitive this year. Had Sutil been on a different strategy I feel he might well have been on the podium or, perish the thought, even on the top step.

I am annoyed that the BBC was not showing the whole race but only the highlights I won't be giving sky anymore money to watch it live.

To be fair to the BBC their highlights are supremely well edited and give the viewer the impression they have seen entire race barring a few boring bits. I can live with it and I was one of the BBC's harshest critics for giving up their contract to Sky.

I don't disagree but the first race should have been live and it wasn't and I wonder how many if any will be. Paying the licence fee is increasingly bad value I think, maybe its time to switch to only watching online off the various iplayers and no longer paying the licence.

It's logical that the Australian GP is highlights as only a limited audience would likely get up very early Sunday to watch the live race. Much better the BBC keep their ration of live races for Sunday lunchtime. I certainly won't be subscribing to Sky until there is competition to force prices down and the evil hacker Murdoch ceases to have an interest.

Yes, I forgot about Sutil. He looked very useful during the race. Another one to watch.

Despite my misgivings about giving money to Murdoch, the Sky F1 HD coverage is both deep and fabulous and they have the best commentating team in Brundle and Crofty. Not that Suzi Perry is hard to look at.

I am a big fan of Suzi, and not just because she is easy on the eye. I rate her as a presenter, her MotoGP coverage is excellent, but on several occasions this weekend she appeared to be out of her depth...

I think Maclaren seriously underperformed relative to their true pace - the Australian GP is quite unique and I expect them to show a lot better at the next race. I am thinking that they had serious issues with their setup, and their operational management and decision making was very poor - I don't expect that to continue in the next few GPs.

Mercedes performance looks promising, and Lotus, Ferrari and Red Bull are quite tightly grouped. It has the makings of a very competitive season.

The Lotus looks to be very easy on it's tyres relative to the rest so they may continue to have very competitive race pace throughout the year.
