For myself, I find that I get the most out of Takemitsu's work when I'm not actively listening to it - it sets a certain mood, a reasonably comfortable space that, as a listener, you settle into, and then as you're on the point of forgetting that you're listening to it, there'll be a sudden shift, or jarring event, that makes your heart race. I like stuff that does this - gently accustoms you to a certain space, and then jolts you!

    And tonight, Bartok! String quartets.

And, for the umpteenth time, the very best of the many G&S Mikados me and the missus have watched ...

Sadly only available on VHS video tape. I'm seeking out an excellent condition copy so I can have it transferred to DVD.

Received this CD in the post yesterday, to go with the CD of PCs 3 & 5 already owned.

These is probably my fave versions of these fine concertos.

Early / mid 1960s recordings, but they don't sound half bad!

After a day listening to vinyl, and reading the great digital v analog debate on here.

Poulenc - Gloria. Stabat Mater by Hickox on Virgin CD truly delicious.

OK seemingly logical continuation from my last post.

Szymanowski - Stabat Mater. Litany to the Virgin Mary and Symph. No 3.
    Simon Rattle.
A really nice CD from 1994.

Now, does this belong here? I'm not sure, but in any case:

John Adams - 'The Dharma at Big Sur'

Not to everyone's taste, but I find it rather lovely.

Saw Stephen on Saturday night supporting Ian Mculloch.

Last night - Martinu Symphonies 3, 4 & 5. Fine performances from the Czech Phil under Neumann, and surprisingly good sound from SQ-encoded LPs . . .
