A rather strange cover for an excellent minty LP
Kipnis was one of the great baroque maestros of the previous (pre-HIP) generation.
Fabulous playing & great sound quality.

Interesting and enjoyable. The flute piece is a bit light, the rest is intriguing.

Katsaris gets off to a spongey start in Scherzo #1 --- then he settles down and
Fantastic Chopin playing, shame he didn't do a retake on the start of the 1st Scherzo!
Ah - I see that I am not alone in my admiration! - some rave reviews here!

My god - what a pianist.
Her Bach is perfect, her Chopin sublime, her Scarlatti has a wonderful perky clarity.
Umm, I'm not too sure what to make the the Bartok and Prokofiev sonatas... not really my sort of music.
After hearing his revelatory Chopin Scherzos and Ballades (reported on previously) I thought I'd sample Katsaris on Schubert and Beethoven. The Beethoven is pretty good, although not a 'major' piece, but the sublime Schubert sonata is a real disappointment. Ah well, it's kind of gratifying to know that he doesn't excel at everything!
Hey, this is a bit of a surprise. A fine performance and (once the volume is turned up to realistic levels) a very fine recording.
I may well investigate more of this Naxos Mahler cycle.
