I'm gone.
Every now and then I try Prokofiev.
Last night is was Piano concertos 3 & 5 and the 2nd violin concerto from this CD box set - all highly recommended recordings in the Penguin Guide.
Some interesting and some beautiful moments, but overall the point of Prokofiev's music continues to elude me!
Ah, now this is more enjoyable!

Hmm -- yeah. Nowt to write home about, imo.
But I guess I was mostly thinking of Prokofiev's concertos and symphonies.
I quite like his string quartets.
He could certainly write some good tunes when he felt like it, it's just that he didn't often seem to feel like it in much of his music!

Wow - fab performance of the Walton 1st symphony - demonstration class sq from Chandos, too. Marvellous. Not my only Walton 1, by any means, but probably the best when you multiply performance x sq! - def one of the best and a keeper.

Thomson was a sadly under-rated conductor . . . For a long time a recorded BBC broadcast of his in Walton 1 was at the top of my list . . .
