How do the KEFs sound Rob? Have you given up on Analogue?

Only got the 104/2's back this evening so still very early impressions. Not bad! As a challenge, keeping the system cost down to £500 or under, spot on budget atm.

I am in the process of finalising a design for a DIY turntable, based on a 60's Sony Broadcast deck.

Hi Rob, I had a pair of 105.3's which are fantastic speakers but required of bit of grunt behind them to make them sing, never really got the best out of them from valves even using a 100 watt Bill Beard P100 kt88 amp,

I thought the 104/2 horrible at the time, but I believe they were tweaked early in their life and the thick and clogged quality in the bass disappeared. later experiences of the 104/2's have all been highly positive.

Andr'e, for years the 104ab was a well kept secret with modern sources and amps, but the secret's out now and they're fetching loads of dosh I believe now, as are Concerto's and other much loved classics from this time...
I can't go on and I can't go back, I don't feel so matter of fact,
I tried and tried to make good sense, What's the good to try it all again?

Blimey Rob - I doff my cap - you don't half get thru some kit these days!

How do you work it? - a long list of Wants? - or just have a go with whatever comes along that takes your fancy?

(I use the latter approach to boxswapping )

Its a mix of both, the MMG's and 104/2's have been on my to do list since I got into hifi really, but never had the room to accommodate them.
I really like the mid-treble of the 104/2, but could improve on the bass control, this could be a mix of the amp and the foam rings on the bass drivers need doing. They should be with me within the week so I can get that done.

Yep, my experience of KEF 105/3 is that they need an amp with serious current delivery to get the bass performance they are capable of. Without that the bass was loose and very ill-defined.
