Right now, Beethoven's 6th 'Pastoral', with The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, conducted by William Steinberg. That will be followed by his 8th, with The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Karl Böhm and Clemems Krauss.

Really enjoyed this CD. Pleyel's lifetime coincided with Beethoven, but Ludwig van was revolutionary in the extreme, and Ignaz Pleyel wasn't. Good stuff, though! Think 'late Haydn' or Mozart and you won't be too far off the general idea.
I'm not too sure about two of the pieces herebut the cello concerto is a stunner!

and Respighi string quartet and Il Tramonte (for string quartet and soprano) - the latter is a very lovely piece indeed. Played by the St John SQ with Sally Dibblee (sop) on a self-published Canadian CD.

Bach Complete Organ Works
I had not heard of Bernard Foccroulle's traversal of Bach's organ works until it featured on Radio 3's "building a library".
I'm about half way through it (Clavierubung III is on tonight) and am thoroughly enjoying it. Foccroulle plays on a variety of organs contemporary with Bach, which makes a nice change. Lots of samplers are available on youtube if you fancy having a dip!

Wow, that was a musical experience. It has a more relaxed, slightly less edgy presentation than the CD and reveals in gorgeous detail how Radu Lupu dances over the keys. A simply wonderful performance (and it's that man Previn again, someone I greatly admire as a conductor) and goes to the desert island with me.

Boxed set picked up for £1 from Swordfish in Birmingham. Gorgeous big sound, lovely performance.
