I used to be a newspaper editor and had the 'pleasure' of Peter Mandelson popping in to see me every couple of weeks.

As well as being an odious piece of shit with the limpest hand shake I've experienced, the Prince of Darkness is a bit fussy when it comes to drinks. Won't have tea or coffee but must have hot water with a slice of lemon in.

Day before he came was due in my secretary used to nip out to buy a couple of lemons. On day of his lordship's arrival she brought sliced lemons and jug of water to my office.

Couple of hours later when the obnoxious bastard had gone I used to walk out into the newsroom sucking on a lemon.

Someone always 'bought it' and said 'urgh how can you suck a lemon?'

My reply was always the same 'I needed to get the bitter taste of talking to that piece of shit out of my mouth'

I can guarantee that sucking lemons laced with powdered glass and fish hooks would be preferable to talking to Mandy.

Hope it was worth waiting for.

It's like any form of training. A couple if hours with Mandy and a gobful of festering cat shit would be palatable.

    Oh, I could tell you stories . . .

Martin, I've yet to find anyone who liked him.

Have you heard how Dennis Skinner put him down?

It was when Mandy first got into parliament. He was standing by a call box in one of the corridors as Skinner approached

MANDELSON: Could you lend me a 20p coin. I need to call a friend.

SKINNER: Here's 40p. Ring ALL of them.

    Isn't that 40p too much?
